PC Engine LT lcd repair or upgrade?
« on: October 08, 2025, 04:51:15 AM »
Just had this unit recapped but didn't solve the issue of the screen not showing a picture (powers up as I can see a backlight, also audio works) then I connected it to an IFU and (composite) video works on a TV also swapped the lcd monitor to a working unit and picture comes up fine although it shows stain all around the screen so it's not good anyway. Then I inspected the main board around the top left and notice it's been reworked before and probably not in the best way in particular T500 coil cap is broken and the windings are discontinued so considering all the above I am not sure trying a repair would be the best option at this time as I would need an original lcd and a good T500 transformer. So I would lean towards upgrading to a modern display which if I understand correctly would bypass all the lcd related circuitries so two birds with one stone but not sure how to proceed as I can't find a tutorial for the upgrade. So I am open to suggestions or I might even sell the thing as is, it's slightly yellowed has a nice box and original adapter.

The capacitors in the rear left corner can leak reallt bad and leak underneathe components on the board causing shorts. I've worked on a few of these systemd where components under that corner have needed to be removed, have both the board and components cleaned, and then reinstalled to repair.  So the components on this corner. Also, there could be shorted via connection holes in the same area that can require repair.
