Galaga 88 warp
« on: February 19, 2007, 01:59:58 AM »
How does the warp dimension system work in Galaga 88?
I don't know how to make it happen. Once I played it I warped after stage four, I think, but every other time it's been after about stage eight. I don't know what I did that one time that made me go through the dimension warp early. Is it anything to do with those blue squares that you catch as they drop down the screen after busting some rocks? Or it is to do with something else?

If memory serves, you have to collect two blue capsules.  I think that they come from destroying obstacles (rocks or crystals) or from destroying two enemies after they have joined.

Necro's correct, the blue squares will warp ya.  If memory serves you'll have to collect at *least* 2 of them to warp, sometimes 3 depending where you are on the progress/warp trail (you'll see it after you die).  Using that you can figure out where the warps will be as well.

The warping system in Galaga 90 was sooo much cooler.

Galaga '90 DESTROYS wimpy-ass Galaga '88, which doesn't even compare.

Good point, just another one of the gazillion examples why TG16 is better than PCE :D .

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I thought 88 and 90 were the same.  Are there any actual differences?

Not a single one that I'm aware of (other than title and language of course), and I've beat them both many times   Did I miss something?

Of course Galaga '90 is better than Galaga '88 (16-bit > 8-bit).  :P
