Really,I didn't know there was a dick measuring contest in high school. I was too busy dropping out, getting a job, buying games and having sex with women. So this contest,is that like the nasty college circle jerk stuff you always hear about???

OMG TOUGH WORDS ON THE INTERNETZ!

I think we:

1. Need to get back on the topic at hand which is Dreamcast ports of SNK games

and

2. Need to get D-Lite in here, as he's the only one who knows what the hell he's talking about when it comes to this kind of stuff.

Run it in an emulator. Problem solved.

Yeah, I don't think that I'm going to be able to get this game to boot.  I'm going to have to see if I can find the S-video cables.  Oh well.  :(

And yes, I'll keep in mind that this is a bastardized port.

Personally Joe I think you would like the first one more since the story, backgrounds, and even music was cooler.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

I actually like S-Video. Granted, I'm not picky about video quality unless it's my PC, and I only have a 20-inch non-HD capable CRT TV. But hell, I can see the picture, it's in color, I don't really need much more.

Its pretty obvious the game simply is not going to run the way he wants it to via VGA port. Some titles you can just not force. It takes nothing special to know this. This is just how the software wishes to run,how it was designed to do so. I never meant for what I said to be tough words, just yanking your chain. Seriously I understand what you were trying to say, however I made a point to avoid all the high school non-sense you mentioned and did exactly what I stated I did.

Hey Keranu,I am the exact same way also on how I feel about Last Blade 2. Its ok,but I feel 1 was much better. LB 2 has alot of lack luster stages and music esp.

I like s-video as well, but I'm just not 100% sure where my cables are and climbing behind the whole conglomeration of madness behind my TV is not fun, either.  Maybe if I find the cables I'll play it on my SDTV dedicated to old-school consoles (everything pre-DC).  At least then the 240p would be proper.

Throwing in a reply to SignofZeta,

The US TG-16 library is a bit different, as those titles are in english, while most of the jap releases of the same title are only in jap, possily some english here and there. Also, I only know of 2 US titles that fetch over $150. Neo Geo, all the carts are pretty much the same (Except for pin differences between aes and mvs).

PC-Engine must be the poor man's Turbo Grafx (in case it goes over some heads, I'M KIDDING).

MVS, AES, I don't care. Aes may be prettier, however MVS gets the job done for me. The Universe Bios helps. If you dump a universe bios into either machine, I think you can play the aes like an mvs, it works that way on my MVS. That's only a $30 or so upgrade. Joe, take a look into a modified bios, if you haven't already. Some fun stuff there.

Yeah, the Universe BIOS is awesome.  I don't know if I could NOT have it.

Anyway I found an s-video cable and hooked up the DC to an SDTV.  I didn't have any issues with the graphics.  The scaling was really clean.  There wasn't much music that I heard and maybe during the port they screwed up the voices (they sound really harsh).  I like the game a better than Samurai Shodown, but SNK fighters really are different than anything else.  For some reason I just can't get the hang of them, though I did get further in this game than in SS2.  I hold back to block, but attacks still get through.  What am I doing wrong?  Also there is a "repel" button.  Is that a block button?  Also what is the best character to use?  I just used the first one on the list and then some little girl.  After that I used some other guy who was just awful.  He had spinning blades... hell they all probably have spinning blades.  I noticed a lot of SvC Chaos in here... you can choose a cheat when you continue, you have 2 life bars per round, etc.  Oddly, I can almost walk right through SvC Chaos, though if Geonutz pops up I may need to continue.

I'm glad there weren't polygons in the background like KoF Evolution.  Ug.

While I had my DC out I played some Street Fighter 3.3 and cranked up the difficulty.  My left thumb muscle is now mush.  I got close to the end (I think, I forget how many stages there are).  There is almost too much animation in this game and as a result my timing is off.  Looks awesome as hell, though, even if it is a low-res game.  An almost perfect port, graphically.

What is prob happening is your prob doing a standing block and they are hitting you with low attacks because your turtling up far to often. Repel is harder to use. You can use it to deflect a attack and while they are stunned attack yourself. Comes in most handy if your playing "Speed".As bad as it sounds, you should spend about 30 mins just doing repels. Get the hang of it. Characters like Moriya in speed with alot of repel will rip anybody apart in a matter of seconds.

I was mostly doing POWER mode since I myself am hungry for power.  I did the EX mode once and am not sure what it is for.

Bah, high combo counts are for the same type of nerds who brag about high uptimes! A 4 hit combo is great when you've wiped out an entire lifebar (Kaede has a great one).
