PSN emulation up to snuff?
« on: April 10, 2012, 11:38:27 AM »
Hi, I know this is the Virtual Console section, but I didn't see one dedicated to the PSN versions. I figured they might be the same or similar, anyway. I was wondering if anyone had tried them and if they felt they were very close to the originals? The reason I ask is because I got several off of there (including the Japanese PSN) and I thought they sounded a bit bad -- like, the sound is muffled. But I wasn't sure if it was just me or my TV, or if it was originally that way. I never had a TG16. And I've only known it from emulation, like Magic Engine, or YouTube, which is usually emulation.

Thanks

This is a good question. Please tell us which specific title(s) you have.

On the original hardware, I can see how the title screen music seems a bit muffled.

Of course, the video you posted is a different beast entirely. Not sure what to make of it, but if you tell me that you created the song, well, I'd tip my hat in your general direction. I'm too lazy to use Shazam/soundhound.

TRIVIA: the samples at the very end ("schoolkid chorus" going "Hey!" with a bit of reverb) is straight from Art of Noise, which is a good thing.

UPDATE: So, I watched some of your other videos. The song you chose for Blazing Lazers complements it...and I hear some by-the-numbers thrash song  mixed in with the wubble wubbles, so you have to tell me about this song.

Hi Esteban,

Sorry about not getting back to you sooner. I took that video down, but I believe the music was from YouTube mixed with something by at the same time. (Amazon link).

I found the latter to be a good choice for playing Blazing Lazers, although I still failed to beat it that night despite is being an easy game people say. Maybe I got too caught up in the music.
