Good, cuz I just bought it. Someone on eBay had a Strider 2/Strider PS1 bundle for a couple bucks. How does the port of Strider 1 hold up?

You need to know that due to a printing error the discs are mislabeled - the Strider 2 disc contains Strider 1 and vice versa.

I hope that this doesn't affect every copy. I bought the loose Strider 1 disc on its own to get a clear version of the original.

I'd like to pick up a hybrid Bluray/HD-DVD player since it's still unclear which format is going to become standard but they are just so damn pricey. Add the fact that I already own some HD-DVDs and zero Bluray discs, I might just have to settle for the HD-DVD player.

I don't claim to be an expert, but HD-DVD has lost a lot of wind from its sails recently. I'd hold out for a bit longer .

I think Blu Ray by far has the upper hand now, which is good since I own a PS3 and that way I don't have to buy a separate player.

I agree with the few others who have posted.  HD-DVD has been a dying format and I think it will continue to die.  I suggest you play your HD-DVDs in normal DVD mode in a DVD player and consider getting a blu-ray in the future (or whatever else might come out).

Maybe I'll just buy a PS3 and use it as a Bluray player.

The thing about this debate is:

1. They're both about the same in quality and have nearly the same movies.

2. The PS3 is not only the best Blu-Ray player out there, but it is contained in the console, unlike the 360's external HD-DVD drive.

3. But I don't want to use my console to play DVDs, because that will KILL the console over time.

If I bought a PS3 as a Bluray player, I would most likely use it exclusively as such.

If there came a day when a totally killer omg must-own game came out for the PS3, I might buy it and even be able to play it as an added bonus.

And the PS3 is going to be ultra friendly soon to transfer blu-ray movies to the PSP with 1.0 discs (2.0 discs have a PSP formatted movie already on them).  You could also play around with remote play between the psp and ps3.  Just don't get a PS3 for the games...sure it will have a few gems before it is replaced by the PS4, but I honestly don't know of 1 game for the PS3 which I would call a "must have" yet.

Don't worry.... The only reason I would buy one at this stage is for the Bluray compatibility. Beyond that I have no motivation whatsoever to even think about it.

It is funny how the Bluray format will change over time which makes buying a stand alone player kinda crappy right now. With the PS3 you can download updates to do this. Nice alternative sales pitch for Sony..... Anyways, a lot of movie companies are veering away from HD-DVD exclusives. I really think Sony might make it on this format war. Sure, Beta Max was better in someways, but VHS won that one. Then there is compact disc, LaserDisc, VCD etc.... I reallly hate this bullshit. It is really a pissing contest on formats, even though they have been trying to do all this with certain Motion Picture Companies for one or the other. It just isn't really practical for the typical consumers who still don't mind watching standard DVDs.

I had no problem with regular DVD until I got this HD set. Now the limitations of the format are very apparent. The lower resolution and film grain from the standard DVD are very noticeable on the HD. Maybe my standard DVD player just sucks balls (which is possible, it's a good few years old), but either way if I'm going to get a new player I might as well get one to support the new format.
