its a good v-cd player.

That's with the add-on though, so theoretically STOCK CD-I FAILS.

That depends on which model you bought. There was tons including a portable one that did. Philips CD-i 490,Magnovox 550 , Philips 370 - Portable Player,Philips 615 Professional ect all had it...It was released with and without it,so that doesn't really apply.

But don't VCD movies have to be spanned across like 2 discs for decent quality, making them fail as WELL as the CD-I?

Really well mastered v-cd disc looked as good as VHS without the color bleeding and analog noise present, but with some digital artifacts. Yea,they had to span 2 disc, but LD had to span 2 sides or more too. These were your only options unless you loved VHS.

Oh, so you're the one who was with her last night! Well that explains the obscene grunting and groaning right before I heard her yell "that's the wrong hole!". Thanks for clarifying.

I don't love VHS, I just love having 1 piece of media for 1 movie. Besides, multiple-tape VHS is shit I wouldn't watch anyway, like Gone With The Wind and shit...

I've been an LD nerd since forever, but I'd take VHS over VCD any day. Both formats suck, but in such different ways they can't really be considered similar in quality, and I don't know why people make that comparison. VHS is like a vague haze over everything where as VCD is MPEG-y blocky shitiness over everything.

One thing I can say for VCD is that in some ways I prefer the consistent digital noise over every inch of the screen to DVDs with their random blocks of crap flipping out everyplace. You get used to the uniform crapiness of MPEG1 about 20 minutes into the film, but MPEG2 will just come out of nowhere and piss me off.

It's funny this VCD conversation popped up just now. Last night I was watching a VCD of the movie "Blow" I made back in like 2001 before I had a DVD burner. I haven't watched a VCD in like five years. Surprisingly, the quality was a lot better than I remembered. It was pretty much as Michael described-- like a VHS without the inconsistent RF noise.

VCD isn't as bad as everyone bitches about. It's not perfect, but it's definitely not ass on it's own right, especially if nothing else is available. SVCD is much better too. Both formats when done correctly stomp VHS all day long. Plus at least you don't have tapes breaking. Each has it's own different uses; great for music videos as well, though obviously this is all without saying that DVD exists. If you have access to DVD, etc. then it's a no brainer.
Warm milk, turkey, those can make you sleepy(well, the consumption of, you can't just hand around a turkey or a glass of warm milk, & expect to fall asleep).

Well, this is my first and most likely last impression of Game Gavel dot coms Auction site.

I sold two items- one N64 with 4 controllers, Rumble, and Memory card for $7, and a CDi system for $3.

Whatever, great deals for the winners I guess.  Just curious about this Dragon Warrior Jasen Hicks guy Now, is he selling as well as buying up all this stuff going for well under their market values?

Seems kind of odd to me.

Maybe I'll post more items if they generate some more traffic to their site....

I won a few NES games on Game Gavel, then when I requested an invoice from the seller, he never sent one and left me positive feedback thanking me for fast payment.  :-s Guess he didn't want to sell them for the starting bids or something.  Oh well.  Woulda been a good haul, but whatever.
