Looking for good two-player games on the SMS
« on: July 18, 2008, 12:49:46 PM »
So far I have Bubble Bobble, Columns, Fantasy Zone the Maze, Spy vs. Spy, Time Soldiers, Gauntlet, Double Dragon, Rampage, California Games, Reggie Jackson Baseball, Great Baseball, Slap Shot, and Gangster Town.

For two-player alternating, I have Fantasy Zone, The Ninja, Black Belt, and Ghost House.

Are there any good two-player games I don't have yet?  (I'm not willing to shell out the big bucks for Street Fighter.)
I'm especially interested in finding more 2-player simultaneous, non-sports games to play with my girlfriend; she likes the first four games listed.

You have a lot of the good gems right there man & one of my favs is Gangster Town :D but a couple more decent simultaneous action styles is…
Rambo First Blood Part II & Pro Wrestling. Rambo more for you and the Pro Wrestling for the girly, Pro W is not a great game but some good silly fun there :D (have a spare loose copy with manual of if ya want for cheap)

A couple other two-player alter… Cloud Master, R.C Grand Prix & Kung Fu Kid… Cloud and R.C can be a bit more pricey but Kung Fu Kid is pretty common & waaaaay better than the Ninja.

I was always hoping for a hip-hop version of Gangster Town that had rap "music" and required you to hold the gun sideways like a real badass motherf*cker would (screw proper aiming, that is for pussies).  You could play as the Bloods shooting everyone in blue or the Crips shooting everyone in red.  It would be called Gangsta Town.

FACT: the Sega Master System is the only halfway decent game console without a port of Bomberman.

Seriously, just try to refute me!

The XBOX didn't get a port, did it?

Well EGM (back when they were EGP) said something along the lines of how Wonder Boy is a cross between the arcade game and Bomberman.  If that doesn't count, I don't know what does!

Looks like I remembered it a bit wrong, but the gist is the same.  Here is the scanned page:

This was from Electronic Game Player #4... the issue BEFORE EGM #1.

I find it interesting that the first perk listed among the features of the 16 bit consoles in increased movement control! LOL

The article on the 16 bit consoles makes it sound like the PC-Engine played a key role in pushing Nintendo and Sega to develop their 16 bit consoles, which is probably true.

anyway, you have Bubble Bobble.  You're done finding good multiplayer stuff :)

there is Altered Beast, but I don't know if you will think its that good on the SMS.   I like playing it on there, even though I know its horrid.....
