No doubt it will use some form of the current SF engine. Wish it were HD sprites. Anyway, I can't wait to see what they do with the franchise.
That's if they really mean it with that tease trailer.I am a long time fan of darkstalkers, and even today i still think it's capcom most underrated fighters.Still if they do make a new ds my main concern is if they pull 'that sf x tekken dlc bs again. The other then that i am excited that night warriors and vampire savior are coming to the PSN&XBAL.

My main concern is that it will look like shit and be totally unoriginal. It will be like SFIV, in other words. I really don't care one way or another about DLC.
Frankly, there isn't anybody at Capcom today that could make something as incredible as the original Vampire games. Nobody there is creative enough, and nobody can draw. Real 2D fighting needs to be located elsewhere, such as Persona 4 Arena, Arcana Heart, Blazblue, KOFXIII, etc.
When the DC version of CvS2 came out the obi had written on it "2D will never die" or something like that, but in reality what they really meant is "2D is dead, at least at Capcom".

So sad. Of course, Capcom died for me much earlier, when they began shifting all their resources to bullshit like the Street Fighter series. No, I'm not kidding. What a total wasteland, for me.

I can see that. A great deal of resources were spent on 2D fighting. At the same time though fighting games gave us the best 2D graphics ever seen in video games, and along with handhelds are responsible for keeping 2D alive for so long.
If they weren't making 2D fighters they wouldn't be making 2D anything, Capcom wouldn't be anyway.

Not all 3d capcom games are a loss. My rival schools arcade board f#cking rules!
As for darkstalkers I own a phoenixed vampire savior cps2 b board which is pretty much as good as you can get. I think the game's great fun but the matches seem too fast to me, also it feels like there's not as much variety in moves as other great capcom fighters. Still, it's a total gem.

There aren't enough moves for you...in VS2? Other than...KOF 98 or something I can't think of a game with more moves.

I'm happy that all the 2D fighters are getting re-released. I still want Alien Vs Predator (side scroller) and the missing games like X-Men CotA and X-Men Vs Street Fighter, but I'm really stoked there's enough interest in the classics.
TBH, I kind of feel that Street Fighter pretty much went as far as it could 2D wise - and along the way, they milked each generation way too much. You still have people making advances in 2D fighting, but it feels to me that they're too disparate to the core SF gameplay for Capcom to have done anything similar.
I think we did pretty well to get so much out of Capcom's 2D heyday. There might be games you don't like, but they're all fairly polished, and there's a decent catalogue.
TBH, every time there's a new franchise, it always starts the same way. Someone like Yu Suzuki and his team will take great pains to develop a core of around 8 different fighters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but usually very balanced. Then as the series goes on, they develop new characters, bring back old ones, and before you know it you're in the middle of a 32 person clusterf*ck.
The sooner people realise that more isn't necessarily better, the... uh better.

I can understand someone saying SF went everywhere gameplay-wise that it could in 2D. I don't agree, but I see where they are coming from.
Where I call bullshit is when we get to the implication that SF going 3D added anything. It didn't. There isn't anything in SFIV that couldn't be done in 2D. The only real change was visual, and to me SRIV looks like total f*cking shit.
Honestly, it's the most re-tread of any "all new" Capcom games. SFIII started out with just Ryu, everyone else was new. SFZ started out with half new characters as well. SFIV has mostly old characters, with the same moves and costumes, with only a few new characters, all of which are lame as hell.
I mean, why is Cody *still* in his prison outfit from SFZ3? Hasn't he had time to change out of that shit by now?
Then you look at something like Vampire Savior...that thing just oozes creativity, even though its the third game in the series and uses tons of sprites from earlier games.
God, SFIV sucks...

I hope I didn't infer that - my heart sank when.. actually it was when I saw MvC3, not Street Fighter 4. I don't think Street Fighter 4 is so bad, though it's probably my least favorite after Super, but the models do definitely suck. The muscles are way OTT, and I would agree, they could have easily done it in 2D.
I do own 4 and 4 super, but I got one for £cheap and the other for £free, and I don't play them very often. I much prefer 3rd strike and the Arcade crossovers.

I recall reading that something along the lines of collition detection and what not was made better by the change.
I tell you what, graphics wise I was impressed by it, but I liked the look of KOF 13 better, and that was done using their DOT technology or whatever they call it. 2D to 3D back to 2D tweaked.
Animation wise there are tons of new fighters that give both Mark of the Wolves and SF III a good run for their money. So I think Capcom could still probably do something in 2D and make it really stand out. Maybe.

I guess I am the only one that liked SF IV....
I admit it was a lot more of the same, but after feeling somewhat alienated by SF III, I was okay with that. The graphics are kind of shitty and I miss the hand drawn look, but at the same time, the game is a blast to play.
MVC 3 on the other hand, that game was awful. Which is kind of funny, because they definitely tried to innovate much more in MVC3 than with SF IV, but I think they missed the mark. Apparently I don't want to see any innovation?

See I loved what they did with #3 from first to third impact. Guess I am in the minority. Overall I really liked what's done with four, it feels like it's the next step visually and the animations are more "realistic" I need to try out the last version of 4, super duper with unicorns on top, here are da hong kong twins edition; but at the end of the day, 2D is where it is at in my book for fighters. Persona 4 is on my radar.

The Capcom CPS3 fighters have some of the best f*cking hand drawn animation I have ever seen/have yet to see in a 2D fighting game.
I don't count SNK/Playmore's f*cked up way of doing 2D. The whole "lets make 3D first then Trace" makes my head hurt. That is a really weird process for wanting a certain 2D look.

Everything starts hand drawn actually. http://kofaniv.snkplaymore.co.jp/english/info/15th_anniv/2d_dot/creation/index.php

I appreciate all the work that goes into the creation of the characters in the newer KOF games, but using the 3D for "standardization" I find a little silly. I really don't remember all the characters in early KOF games to be that different in style. I also have no doubt that the guys making all the oldschool KOF characters could have pulled off some amazing work if they had about a year and a half to do a character. I love the art and animation in the newer KOF, I just find the process much to be desired for me.

For sure, that just doesn't add up in the business world unfortunately.
There has been a super surge of 2D fighters recently, so at least we have those, and they are GOOD!

Yeah, Guilty Gear and Blazblue are keeping the torch lit for 2d fighters. I love Guilty Gear, but I have yet to really try Blazblue. I'm not really big on some of the characters in that game.

Dude! you are missing out! Definitely try BlazBlue. On my radar next is the Persona fighter. It looks awesome and has that Jojo vibe to it with the "summons."

Blazblue is truly a sight to behold. The problem though is that its manic and confusing as all f*ck and none of the attacks make any damned sense. Concepts like "punch" and "fireball" are not dominating the game as much as we're used to. Its not something you can just jump right into.

See I find it WAY less confusing than the Marvel Vs Capcom games, old and new. The playmechanics do get a little to get used to. First time players should use Noel as she's the closest to a Ryu/Ken clone in the game. For some Off the wall fighting Rachel is the way to go. I love throwing stakes on the ground and electrifying people and that cut umbrella thing gets all sorts of beatings.

The one I play regularly is hyper fighting, via supercade

I got MvC3, and I really like it. I 1cc'd it first go (with some of my favorite characters - a feat I haven't managed since, Galactus keeps pounding me, though I think I know the problem). It's a great game, totally manic and over the top, and sometimes I feel like I'm button mashing (I tell myself I'm not, since I can still pull off the moves I want).

My main Capcom fighters these days are Street Fighter Alpha 2 on the Sega Saturn (or SFZ3 at times) and Street Fighter 3: TS on Xbox 360 (Best port actually). Also, I've been playing Night Warriors Revenge and Vampire Savior for the Saturn a bit more these days. The other releases like JoJo's BA and the Marvel Origins are keeping me busy as well. If Capcom keeps this up. It is the only redeeming quality about them lately.
I like the DS series and all but the special moves can be somewhat awkward and restricted. It is like the moves are designed to be not as effective as moves in the SF games. Hopefully you get what I mean.

Need to spend $40 to get $20 back for the soon to expire spend $100 in October get $20 back sale.

I've played the original a few times in the past and really liked it. Was thinking about giving it a try too. Downloaded the demo and it felt as solid as before. Let me know what you think. I've also got my eye on the Darkstalkers collection and the Guilty Gear release.

We could definitely use a MotW2. ;)
This could be cool, I wouldn't mind seeing the entire line of 2d fighters by capcom return. I have had fun with SFIV, MvC3, and BlazBlue but I don't think I've spent enough time with them to really get down and dirty to judge how great the specific engines/play styles are. Nothing like how I used to play Fatal Fury, Sam Sho, and Street Fighter II:Turbo! :D
