I'm happy that all the 2D fighters are getting re-released. I still want Alien Vs Predator (side scroller) and the missing games like X-Men CotA and X-Men Vs Street Fighter, but I'm really stoked there's enough interest in the classics.
TBH, I kind of feel that Street Fighter pretty much went as far as it could 2D wise - and along the way, they milked each generation way too much. You still have people making advances in 2D fighting, but it feels to me that they're too disparate to the core SF gameplay for Capcom to have done anything similar.
I think we did pretty well to get so much out of Capcom's 2D heyday. There might be games you don't like, but they're all fairly polished, and there's a decent catalogue.
TBH, every time there's a new franchise, it always starts the same way. Someone like Yu Suzuki and his team will take great pains to develop a core of around 8 different fighters, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, but usually very balanced. Then as the series goes on, they develop new characters, bring back old ones, and before you know it you're in the middle of a 32 person clusterf*ck.
The sooner people realise that more isn't necessarily better, the... uh better.
