It sucks ass. Battles aren't very intuitive and they take f o r e v e r. This game's length will only come from it's looong battles (which, like nearly all RPGs seems to be the only basis of the game). Graphics are good, but I don't care for the character designs. Music isn't bad at all (from what I heard). Voices are lame. HUGE V-sync problem just like most 360 games. 16-bit era RPGs destroy this game.
Also, the ARCADE version of Golden Axe is available to download from Xbox Live Arcade. That's a far better way to spend your time (you can play through 3 levels in single player without buying it).
-
Seriously, the arcade Golden Axe is on there now? I hadn't read anything about either of these downloads lately.
I'm going to go them right now. :D
-
f*ck Blue Dragon, Golden Axe PWNS that (although I am partial to the Genesis version)!
-
Yup, it's the arcade Golden Axe! It even has online co-op if you are into that sort of thing. It is missing the additional level from the Genesis version, of course.
Sonic Genesis is also available for download, but no one cares.
-

Well at least THAT Xbox Sonic isn't broken... :P
-

Agreed who would care given it's on the sonic mega collection.
It's even on the Wii VC and i still see it as a waste.
-
The only good thing about it is that it cost $5 on Xbox Live Arcade and $8 on Virtual Console.
-
... HUGE V-sync problem just like most 360 games.
Huh? I've rarely seen this in 360 games, though I've noticed it more on PS2 and Xbox late gen games.
-
Maybe it's just been on most of the 360 games that I have personally played. It wasn't there in Gears of War, though.
It does it a lot in MotoGP 06 and that kind of irked me since none of the Xbox MotoGPs did it.
-
A demo is never representative of the completed project...unless it's a demo of the completed product, in which case there's no excuse for sloppy shit, that thing better be in top form.
-
I've always found the demos on Xbox Live to be highly representative of the finished thing, at least graphically. Sure, they may change a scenario or a control around somewhat, but the graphics/animation are almost always 100% identical.
-
Blue dragon is alright! But yea.. I was expecting better and I hate the music.
I prefer the battle and graphics on Eternal Sonata.
Still I definitely be picking up blue dragon as the 360 is in dire need of jp rpgs!!!

But if you buy it, you're saying to Microsoft "I don't give a f*ck if the game is shitty, release it anyway!". 0_o

Isn't that what you're doing when you buy most modern games anyway?
-
LOL, yes! It sure seems like it. Although I will definitely be buying Ace/Air Combat 6 on day 1.
-
Damn you Microsoft corporation, making us buy your inferior products :x
-

I agree with Black Tiger. Its something I felt since Sony became king of the consoles is that any software company can put shit out and it sells.. Sega used to make great games but no one was buying them on the 32X, Saturn or Dreamcast.. now they make shit on playstation/nintendo/xbox consoles they sell!!!
-
I would take Joe's advice with a grain of salt if I were all of you.
Blue Dragon has been getting huge praises from those who have played the actual game. Besides, the big three who worked on Chrono Trigger have worked on this game. I personally can't wait. 8)
-
Dark fact makes good points. I didn't know about those chrono trigger dudes :-k
-
wow i thought everyone knew about the creators of blue dragon! :O
Hironobu Sakaguchi the grandaddy of Final Fantasy games
Akira Toriyama (Creator and manga artist extrodinaire of dragon ball Z fame),
and Nobuo Uematsu music composer final fantasy games,
-
wow, all those great dudes making a game. It should turn out great :D
-
Names don't make the games. Case in point: my wife picked up FF7: Dirge Of Cerberus a couple of weeks ago, and the other day, I finally got a chance to play it. It was the biggest load of SHIT game I've seen in years. Overcomplicated, poorly-designed piece of garbage that's a total insult to the greatness that was FF7. Just because it's based on FF7 doesn't mean it was good. So, good name doesn't equate good game. Good designers can make shitty games.
-
True. Yuzo Koshiro does great music, right? But wait! Listen to Streets of Rage 3, Beyond Oasis, ActRaiser 2, etc and it sounds like he's on drugs due to the random notes and weak composition. Fortunately he went to rehab and is good again. Blue Dragon is about as boring as your typical Final Fantasy game.... EXTREMELY!
-
I didn't know he did the music for Actraiser 2. I knew it wasn't the same as whoever did the first, as the style is VERY different...but the tunes aren't all that bad, and a couple of them are quite memorable, really. Have to agree for SOR3 though.
-
Now, the music for Actraiser 1 was genius. FF7: Dirge Of Cerberus was only good for the continuation of the Advent Children in some ways. It wasn't all that horrible, but not all that great either. The aiming system makes it feel like a PC 1st person game. No wonder there was a keyboard/mouse control picture inside the manual.
Plus, all sequel/side quest Final Fantasy games come out half-assed anyway. Remember FF: X-2, what a great way to turn away fans of the series in the US. Japanese gamers of all ages can handle silly non serious girly shit, but not any guy that is of the age of 18 or up in the US. I would be embarrassed to have some dude I know walk in my house and seeing me play it for crying out loud. FF:XII was a comeback since I really like the FF: Tactics and Ogre Battle team's work. Anyways, I am going to fire up Dragon Force for the Saturn. I am in tha mooooood-e.
-
The music for both ActRaiser 1 and 2 were done by Yuzo Koshiro.
-
Actraiser 1, Streets Of Rage 2, some of the Sonic music, the "4operators" track off of the FM Moudle Maniax CD and that new Castlevania game for DS is all I can stand of Mr. Koshiro.
-

I like musik written by guys on drugs; like jimi hendrix stuff  I guess this japanese dude was on the wrong drugs, probably anti-depresants or something

The only Sonic music Yuzo ever did was for the first SMS version of the game. Michiru Yamane was responsible for both DS Castlevania iterations and I have no clue what Module Mania even is. Also, have you heard Wangan Midnight 2 or Shenmue?
-
fine even the best people have mental breakdowns from time to time
back to mistwalker games did you also see the trailer for lost odyssey which is using the unreal 3 engine? (although I was wondering about the jerky frame rate in some of those scenes >.<) I think this could turn out to be better than blue dragon but the character designs .. me no like much
-
The music for both ActRaiser 1 and 2 were done by Yuzo Koshiro.
Same guy? Sounds altogether different, the style is completely unique between the two games. I guess those drugs really affected his style on the sequel. :D

1. My bad.
2. Actually, Koshiro has a couple of tracks in Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin. They're remixes of older Castlevania tunes. Yamane is responsible for the new stuff.
3. FM Module Maniax is a kickass CD! They got Japan's top composers to make music on a cellphone that has an FM chip inside of it (with capabilities similar to a DX100). Yuzo Koshiro provided the last track on the CD "4operators" a track that reminds me of 70's psychedelic rock. Pretty awesome. You can get the CD at: http://gh.ffshrine.org/soundtracks/6443
4. Shenmue is boring, and I avoid ANYTHING with the word "Wang" in it. Except for Shadow Warrior.
-
YOU EVEN AVOID WANG CHUNG? Everybody Have Fun Tonight!
How DARE you!

Hell no, I'd NEVER avoid Mr. "Dance Hall Days"!
-
So this Blue Dragon game is an RPG, eh? Pfft. The "gamers" the companies peddle to now haven't seen a real RPG yet.

American RPGs suck. The end.
-
not sure if I've ever played an American rpg. Can you tell me of some titles?
-

Anything by Bethseda, or New World Computing, or anything like that. Anything that has anime styled graphics and is NOT Sudeki or Septerra Core.
Better yet, you give me some titles of RPGs YOU'VE played, and I'll tell you.
-
I'm pretty certain that all the rpgs I've played are of Japanese origin. I don't recall hearing of those companies you've mentioned.
-
most of those are pc developers.
-
And XBOX developers.
Lemme just run down some titles:
Baldur's Gate
Elder Scrolls (Arena, Daggerfall, Morrowind,Oblivion, etc...)
Shadowrun
Septerra Core
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic
Mass Effect
Sudeki (It's British actually, but it still counts, even though the design goal was to be as Japanese as possible)
Might & Magic series
Secret Of Evermore (although this was dictated by Square to play HIGHLY Japanese)
Dungeons & Dragons series
Basically, any RPG that cares more about the leveling than anything, has an OVERLY medieval or futuristic setting, and is just tedious and boring to play? That's an American-as-apple-pie RPG.
Fallout is the exception to this.
-
ALERT! OBNOXIOUS JAPANOPHILE HAS ENTERED THREAD!
-
4. Shenmue is boring, and I avoid ANYTHING with the word "Wang" in it. Except for Shadow Warrior.
Shadow Warrior rocks. I still have the game for PC and it's still hilariously awesome to play to this day. :D
By the way, kitsunexus, do you think Blue Dragon is an american RPG?
-
WHOOOOO WANTA SOME WANG!
And no, I know it's Japanese. I was arguing with Nödtveidt's post (I assumed by "real RPG" he meant "American").
-
ALERT! OBNOXIOUS JAPANOPHILE HAS ENTERED THREAD!
Thank you. And I'd hate to hear how he feels about the old-skool "western" computer RPG's...
-
I was arguing with Nödtveidt's post (I assumed by "real RPG" he meant "American").
Don't ever assume. It makes an ass out of U. :P
I wasn't referring to American RPGs, and besides, I rarely, if ever, use the word "American". I was referring to REAL RPGs, not these half-baked excuses we tend to get these days, even from the Japanese developers.
You will hate the RPG that we have produced. It's pretty much all about leveling, since that's how the original PC game was. However, it's not "American" (meaning USA) in origin...it's Canadian in origin. So...all Canadian RPGs must automatically suck, right?
-
Well yeah, because of that AND because they're Canadian... J/K. ;)
Nah serously, I actually despise all RPGS.
-
Guys, Korean RPGs is where all the leveling is tedious. Have you ever played those free online RPGs like Maple Story and Silkroad? You need to have the patience of a saint to sit through all that. [-(
-
MMORPGs in general are all about leveling. I've yet to find a decent MMORPG aside from RuneScape where the basis was not about leveling. I follow a very simple rule when it comes to MMORPGs: I look at the user forum for the game, and if I even ONCE see the word "mob" being used, then I know it's a crap game.
-
I like the old text based MUD RPGs where it was more about team work with finding your way around dungeons.
-
Americans make awesome RPGs. With the exception of Chrono Trigger, some Final Fantasies, and any RPG Sega ever made, I personally like western style RPGs way more than Japanese RPGs.
-
are there any console american rpgs, maybe 8bit or 16bit that you can recomend to me?

Baldur's Gate for PC or console? I liked Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance. That was a kick-ass hack and slash fest. I liked the 'drop' system in the game. Hmmm...rare drops. The sequel was boring though. The first one had really cool story development to compliment the hack-n-slash fest and expansive weapon/armor inventory. The sequel was blah.
Also, shadowrun for the SNES was cool. Weird, but cool. It was a refreshing break from the same old RPGs at the time.
