Title: SolaR-warrior
Post by: MotoRoaderMike on February 28, 2008, 12:22:21 PM
Solar Warrior is a 1986 arcade game by Technos Japan Corp., that was released in the USA by Taito, and distributed by Memetron. This game is just downright awesome. I cannot describe how awesome it is in words, so you'll have to play it for yourself to see. The stages vary from platforming action, AND space shooting (ala Gradius, Lifeforce, R-Type, games like that). The game is lots of fun. I seriously love it. It's one of my all-time favorite arcade games I think. How this never made it to any home consoles is very strange. The game is very hard though, and it only gets harder the further you progress. The game's also rather long too. There's 11 stages in it, and that's kinda long in terms of an arcade game.

Sounds very interesting, I will have to check it out.

There is some old Famicom game I have that allows you to run on the ground, as a Mech (robot) shooting stuff, but you can also transform into a  jetplane and fly around like a traditional shooter.

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, it's also for arcade, it's pseudo-3D and I USED to have the ROM, but the name escapes me...

I do recognize those shots -- and I recall it being a pretty damn good game.

Thexder?  http://geocities.com/thexderhome/thexder.htm

If that's the game, it was released for a whack-load of systems.  I had the TRS-80 CoCo3 cartridge version. :P

No trust me, it's different, if I'm thinking of the same game. It was scrolling, psuedo-3D, sort of front-back isometric if that makes any sense. You would fly along zapping things, and you would collect parts like legs to turn your ship into a mech.

Nope, but I loved Thexder. Great game. The game I'm thinking of is prehistoric compared to Thexder and especially Kitsune's.

The game I'm thinking of starts in a bland "desert" of brown ground and orange fields of sand (dominant feature) and some blue sky. I'm not sure if this game was released in the States.

Yeah, his game is different than mine, I can't figure mine out! It was like an 80's arcade game...
