I'm not a fan of MMORPG's, but Falcom is putting this together.
-
I've been hearing and seeing shots of this game for years. It's actually done by a Korean company (eSofnet) like all these other MMORPG games that look somewhat anime-ish. Falcom has nothing to do with this title except the liscensing. Not sure how much say so they have over this game. All I know is I'm very sceptical about it. It's like the Gouls n Ghosts online that was being rumored in the works. I just don't really see how well it will work. You do have the whole land of Ys I guess, but it's not that big. If it follows some sort of story it could be alright. Again Falcom has nothing to do with the development of this game.
-
I love me some Ys, but MMORPGQ7RVU3Bs are tools of the devil. I died a little learning that Falcom is whoring themselves out for such drivel. :(
-
Ahhh, the article lead me believe that they were a little more involved in the process. I didn't realize this has been going on for some time. That sucks. :(
-
Thanks for the heads-up on this DJLobo. Looking at the video I could get into this as I've been looking for a MMORPG to get back into since I quite WoW.
-
damn. I might have to play this
Will the combat involve running face first into players and enemies? That would sell me if it was.
-
Haha that would be great, but since Ys 5, Napishtim, Felghana, and Origins has you swinging sweapons I doubt it.
-
An Ys MMO? Ew. I thought Falcom of all companies knew better not to tarnish their most known series with a MMORPG.....
-
It looks more like a Phantasy star universe online game...
where its more like, team up, kill stuff, run around and go "^_^" and talk, as opposed to

Yeah. they hate USA . We arent allowed to do beta. I tried

Personally, I'm not sure what to think of this. Players of the Ys franchise know that each of the games' charms lie in its focal point on hero, Adol Christian and his adventures along with a vast multitude of fantastic relics, grind-friendly levelling, memorable supporting characters, fast paced action and a great story.
When you take away the story-driving characters for NPCs, it practically alters the story telling elements and makes Ys feel like just another MMORPG franchise.
Because we all know, the Ys series are a story in of themselves that have a strong beginning, middle, and end. There is a reason why they're metaphorically referred to as "books". This game would be more like The Neverending Story and I'm not sure if it feels well in place for a franchise like Ys. :?
-
Agreed. They really dicked up Final Fantasy with an online one. I hope Ys maintains a light hearted, easy going, and lush/memorable setup for the MMO
-
Makes me wonder if a U.S. client will be available. I still would like to check this out.

It will be. They just decided USA is not allowed to beta test it. So everyones laughing at us right now.

I sure hate getting laughed at... :(

Me too.
We should make an Americans only MMO.
COWBOYS n FORDS ONLINE.

Well I'm laughing at anyone playing an online Ys game. Seriously...an online Ys game. It will just give the Ys title a bad name. It's bad enough very few outside of Japan are even familiar with the series. A poor MMORPG version will just make people who might've heard of Ys but haven't played it think even less of Ys.

Oh yeah? Well I'm laughing at everyone playing any MMORPG.

Yeah I've tried playing some MMORPGS, but I just find myself doing the same thing in a "supposedly" different game. Wasting god knows how much time that could be spend on productive things...like playing more PC-Engine or the other 7890908723509875789067890 games I need to finish.

Personally, the promotion of any Ys game over here in the West had been nothing more than a joke. I honestly hadn't seen any licensor give Ys the proper respect it deserves. They think the game is too much of a niche for anyone to care.

MMORPGs for me go like this:
-I download
-I play the game for 2 weeks
- I stop playing and come back to it every couple of weeks or so
- I stop caring and just delete the game afterwards
Call me picky but I would like to have a game that has a beginning, middle, and an end. All this monotonous crap just doesn't hold water for me if I don't have an ultimate goal. :|
