Worst console controller ever

And finally i will close out my series with your opinions on the worst controllers ever. My top 5 are:

1. Atari jaguar controller: for me the level of suck is unmatched
2. Genesis 3 button: hate the three button, love the 6 button
3. Atari 7800:  big nobby stick with buttons on both sides, really hated it!!
4. Nes max:  it speaks for itself
5. philips cdi: ok i take it back, this one is worse than the jaguar

1: 3DO - Will not f*cking do diagonals, requires 20 lbs of force just to register a direction, not enough buttons for its time

2: Jag - Just...shit

3: Anything else Atari. My god, for practically inventing games as we know them they sure didn't understand controllers very well. The 2600 was like some kind of strength training device.

4: Dreamcast - Sure, it looks like the NiGHTS pad, but its actually total shit. Buttons are tiny. d-pad is ASYMMETRICAL (WHAT THE f*ck!?) analog stick has a dead spot in it representing a full %25 of its travel, missing two face buttons (as compared to NiGHTS pad), cable exits the bottom (again, WTF?) and by far the worst part, the basic shape of the thing forces your hands in this f*cked up position where your thumbs actually have to point away from the center. This is still a way better controller than the 3DO, for example, but after the Saturn its a huge WHAT THE f*ck device. I so so love LOVE the Dreamcast, but f*ck this controller.

I have to agree with the Jaguar here, it's definately the worst stock controller I've used. I like my 3do pad, but it's the one of the Panasonic controllers, I hear the Goldstar ones sucked balls.

I remember playing CDi Zelda at a friend's house, and they only had the remote-controller looking device to use. It was so awful that it didn't even feel like a game at all. The Intellivision controller is the single worst controller ever created, ever.

It's got craptactile response, controls like crap anyway, and is so poorly designed that they barely work half the time.

It's a toss up between Atari Jaguar and CDi.  For a stock controller, it was a mess.  At least there were hardly any good games to be released for it to force me to get used to the controllers.

For that we had the N64.  bleh.  I enjoyed the Virtual Boy controller far more than those damn things!

Controllers just started to suck the moment the N64 was released, before that everything was normal and reasonable. The N64 tried to make an all in one controller, and it worked, but the buttons made no sense for fighting games. However who cares because Nintendo was living off pokemon, Rare, and Mario Party into it's later years.

They released five Mario Parties but no Mario 64 2 game, or even Mother 3? They figured they could get people to buy Mario Party over and over with differnt variations, but not something like Mother 3, or even Mario. Even Megaman 64 and Resident Evil 2 got an release, and Zero would have headed over their too.

Normal and reasonable are hardly how I'd describe the CDi, 5200, or Channel-F(!) controllers, and yet those are positively pedestrian compared to strange add-ons like the u-force and power glove.

I have to put a tie between the 3DO and Jag controllers.  You know what is actually not that bad of a controller is the Amiga CD 32 controller.

I should add this joyless stick here:


- Backwards design, as compared to every other joypad-type controller that I can recall.
- Joystick seems to be incapable of hitting diagonals.
- I believe this was the only official joystick released for the US Master System.
- Joystick knob is huge and oddly shaped.
- Tiny buttons. Same size as the normal game pad it seems.
- Feels cheap and creaky.

The Atari 5200 controller is easily the worst. And for numerous reasons.

The ergonomics: This controller is in no way shape or form comfortable to hold or use. There's no good way to get a good reach on the fire buttons. It will put your hand to sleep with excessive use.

The Joystick: This is the worst Joystick ever created, children in the 1940s and 50s had to deal with Polio. Children in the 1980s had to deal with the Atari 5200 controller. The joystick doesn't self center. It's analog and doesn't self center, so if you're playing a game that pushing forward further makes you go faster, the controller just tips and goes limp. Atari only included a flimsy rubber cover to try to hold it in place. This is just a terrible design.

The Buttons: The buttons on this controller are terrible, they're hard to hit, and if you use them too often the fragile contacts on the inside crack and break, sometimes after only very light use.

Yep, I forgot to mention that the joysticks also break very very easily as well.

It's basically that controller, only worse.

AND it's permanently attached to the system (unless its an INTV 2)

The 5200 controller has better buttons/feel than the INTV nonsense... !
