Found a Genesis, 32x and sega cd for $80
« on: February 01, 2012, 08:46:35 AM »
Not sure if I should get it or not, I have no idea what the average price of these are going for, but the guy at Sunken Treasures assured me its in working order. I guess my next question is, is it worth $80 or am I better off just getting a JVC X-Eye?

If it's a model 1 cd and genesis then yes I would want to pick that up especially if it has the correct 32x to model 1 cable which is hard to find. The model 2 combo is pretty easy to find and not that desireable. The model 2 cd is more reliable though. Model 1 setup might be worth $80 if everything works and is in nice condition. If it's a model 2 setup I'd want to pay no more than $50. Also make sure it has all the correct power supplies (all 3!) and cable to go from 32x to Genesis (they are kind of hard to find).
The JVC x'eye is pretty cool because you only need 1 power adapter, I would go that route if you can find a nice one for the same price.

If the X Eye is the same price and working I would go for that.(Much more rare) The 32X while nice has such a small and non essential library of games to be worthwhile.

If you don't already have any of those separately, it has all the 32X cables and power supplies for everything and you're not picky about having a different set of models, that's not a bad price if everything is clean and in good condition. Definitely one of the best libraries of all time.

If you're picky about having the best quality sound, you should get a model 1 Genesis with the High Definition Graphics logo on it.

I'd say get it. The mk1 combo is way cooler than the XEye. Take that stupid f*cking 32x off and put it in the closest before anyone realizes you own it though.

Basically what elabit said is spot on.  Model 1 Gennys and Sega CDs are more valuable than the M2 revisions, but the M2 SegaCD is much more reliable than the M1.  I don't think it's a bad price either way, but it definitely isn't a steal either.  If you're looking for a set for personal use, and they're not scratched or dinged up then I'd say it's worth the money.

Just make sure the guy has all the proper power adapters and cords for it.  Don't let them talk you into using an NES power supply for Sega equipment.  It'll fit in the jack but will blow the fuse on the SegaCD.

I long ago completed the tower-o-power, but I can't remember if I spent $80, or more, or less, doing it. I'd say go for it :)

edit: but definitely make sure it has the proper cables.

I checked it out again, it was a model 2. Nothing is in box and its all original no NES power supplies. lol I dunno, I rather go with an X-Eye, just looks so much better having everything in one unit (minus the 32x of course). However, I did see Time Gal and Night Trap 32x cd there for $8. Not bad prices at all... If Sonic CD was there, would have been all over that. ^^

An XEYE will be more expensive as well, prolly around $80-$90 at least from eBay, that's what I've seen them ending at recently.  If that copy of Time Gal has the box and manual pick it up ASAP, $8 is a great deal for a pretty fun game.

I wouldn't unless it's all mint or at near mint.

Time Gal might be worth $8, but Night Trap definitely isn't. All 32XCDs are required by law to suck. Nintendo lobbied congress to do it.
