I will wait until MS changes over to real dollars instead of the retarded point system they have now.

So you can give them your credit card number for hackers to steal? No, thanks.

Uh, you have to give MS your credit card info, too.  And with leftover points that I will never spend the theft is absolute.

Still don't really understand why someone would pay to emulate something.
Why not just slap a English ROM of MWIV into an emulator on the console of your choice?
Sure they are great games, but if you are going to spend money on downloadable content, I'd say it would be better spent supporting a creative indie game developer than paying a company to give you some shiny emulation front end without giving any money to the original creators. Just my opinion though! If it's a SEGA title I'll just play it on the original hardware.

The tiny asking price is basically free as far as I'm concerned. Even though I have a Genesis flash cart, the MW Collection for PS2 and all the console games except one, I'll still gladly buy this if only to support Sega and encourage more releases like this.

If Konami started translating all the great PCE RPGs and sold them digitally for next to nothing, would you still turn your nose up at them? Was the Dracula X Collection a waste of resources?

I'm pretty sure that there's a way now to only buy a specific amount of points through the Marketplace. It may be an option when you try to buy a game.

My philosophy is the same as yours. When it comes to classic games, playing on the original hardware is the only way to go. So, personally, I would never buy this. However, I know that others are not as insistent about using the original hardware as I am (though I'll bet most on this forum think the way you and I do), so I would recommend this set on the 360 to those who haven't played the games yet, and don't mind doing so using legal emulation on the 360.

The way I see it is that fans of the MW series are going to be pretty hardcore classic gamers anyway, and will most likely already own or have played a copy before. So they'd be buying purely to 'support' the game. Any other typical 360 gamer who is used to mind-blowing 3D graphics will see these games with their cartoony graphics and instantly write them off as kiddie games. So I'm just wondering how many gamers new to the series this will attract. Yes, more Sega releases are good, especially translated RPGs, but I dunno, it's still just emulation to me.

There must be plenty of poser retro gamers out there. Why else would we have the Wii Virtual Console, and classic games on XBLA in the first place? Personally, I hope there are younger people and come-lately's who are interested in playing these classic 2D games, even if they have to use emulation.

Well, a lot of younger gamers are into retro gaming, and these download services are good way to get introduced to some classics, so you have a point. Personally I think it's great that there are younger gamers getting into retro gaming. In fact, I think it's great! My little nephew loves the old Sonic games and I plan to introduce him to a lot of my favorite titles. I think he's lucky to have an uncle with such an awesome game collection. I think age really has nothing to do with it. If you like quality games, you'll eventually want to check out some quality games of the past. The same with music. Just because I enjoy music made before I was born doesn't make me a "poser", it's just my taste.

Yeah. Same here. Most of my favorite music was made before I was born, and I enjoy it on formats which were not available at the time. Someday I would love to have a respectable vinyl collection though.

My stereotype of young retro gamers is someone who downloads a huge zip file of roms, and then tries each of them for about two minutes before moving on to another - disrespecting titles that are fine games if you're just willing to put in the time and get past your short attention span. I hope my stereotype is wrong, though.

More that they call themselves "Retro gamers"...and just proves ADHD is running rampant because parents don't spank/disipline/take-care-of their kids like mind(ours?) did.

So the question is; Is it better to play games in two-minute bursts rather than not at all?

(I'll be the first to admit to doing the 2 minute thing on a hell of a lot of 2600 games. I did recently go though a bunch of SMS roms, giving 15-30 minutes a peice minimum. My reasoning was to find games I wanted to purchase. Of course Sagaia, Power Strike and Master of Darkness where tops, and of course tops on price as where all the other games put on my short list.)

I guess it is. They might eventually find a game they like and play for a longer time.

I have a hunch people will be willing to give old games more of a chance if they have actual cartridges in their hands. Downloading a bunch of roms to try all at once is overwhelming, and I doubt each title will be given the respect it deserves. It's an invitation to just rape a system's entire library of games.

I have a PowerPak for my Famicom that is filled with every NES/Famicom game released including lots of hacks, unlicensed games, etc. There are just soooo many Japanese Famicom releases, a lot of times I'll just pick out some random titles and give them a shot, and I admit that if it starts off as a text-heavy adventure game I'll shut that thing off after about 15 seconds. I just don't have the patience for these kind of games at all and don't enjoy them. Same goes for a lot of old strategy games.

The colored border around Alex Kidd is ridiculous.  Since this would all be seen on an HDTV, they should make the game screen bigger and turn all the border colors to black.  I'm not talking about the artwork borders around the 4:3 screen.

Agreed. At the very least, allow us to set our preferences. Also, I have no problem for there to be artwork displayed when the game is paused or running in "demo mode" or in the "jukebox mode" where you can play all the songs.
