Castlevania X comparison + Chronicles + Super Castlevania IV
« on: January 23, 2006, 11:59:45 PM »
I am looking into purchasing Castlevania X and Super Castlevania IV on SNES along with Chronicles for PS1.  Any input on these?  What would you pay for these?  Castlevania X for SNES is going for about $50 now on ebay - think that is a bit much no?  Any other feedback welcome.
What a horrible night to have a curse...

So, you DON'T want the PC Engine version of Dracula X????

IV and Chronicles can be had for cheap on ebay. I'll see if I can find the link, but I remember seeing a side-by-side of Drac X on SNES and PCE. Of course, cutscenes and music on the PCE version make it the winner.

Castlevania X on the snes is a decent game, and if your're a CV fan like me I play it. It has good level design and fair amount of difficultly. This game doesn't usually get alot of buzz because its always compared to DracX for the pce. DracX is a fantastic game and lives up to the hype it recieves. I've beaten DracX like 5 times over, but I don't own DracX because of the price. I'm just happy to play a backup using ME. I would rather spend $100 on several other games.

Edit:
Damn, forgot to mention the other two games in your post.

Castlevania IV (snes) - Great game, a must play for all CV fans.

Chronicles (ps1) - Make sure you get the US version, because the Eu and Jp version has a few bugs. Anyway, this game is remake of the CV1 starting Simon Belmont, and its tough just the way I like it. Although I prefer the X68K version better.

I more of a fan of the traditional CV games with hard difficulty. So my pick would be Chronicles. If you don't like tough CV games check out Castlevania IV, it's difficulty is at medium and well balanced.

oh btw rolins, I have a copy of dracula x, I def want an original though, just curious how the others compare.  So far I've heard mixed reviews of the PCE vs SNES comparison.

Well with out a doubt the pce version is best. As pixeljunkie mentioned earlier this version has cutscenes and an amazing soundtrack. The gameplay is traditional with alternate routes and a second playable character. Kinda like CV3 on the nes, but not as difficult.

The snes version was suppose to be a port of the pce verion, but the only similarity was in appearance. The important features of the pce version was changed for the snes. The snes version had different level designs, two alternate routes, no cutscenes, and no second playable character.

Thats the japanese import of Castlevaina X for the snes, right? Well I've never played any of the imported version so I can't tell.

Yes XX is the Japanese version of Dracula X on SNES only difference is the blood and sweat.

I have the actual cartridge of XX for my Super Famicom system.

*I* personally think it's just as good as Rondo of Blood. As long as I know its a cartridge and it's gonna move slightly slower and not to expect CD quality digitized instruments, I've liked this version from the first time I played it.

Me too, I actually enjoyed playing it. The snes version has gained a rep as the bastard child among CV games, but it's a good game if you look past resembles to DracX.

I do think the music for castlevania X was well done on the snes. Even without the redbook audio the tunes did justice.

The SNES Dracula X is infinitely better than that shit old Haunted Castle game, that one should be the redheaded stepchild of the series.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Dracula XX for SFC. I'd say Dracula X for PCE is overrated and way too expensive. Just not worth it.
