sega genesis rgb cable for gbs-8200
« on: October 08, 2012, 07:53:37 PM »
Ok, I need help building this cable and i'm finding conflicting info. What i want to do is build an rgb cable that will interface with this unit:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/GBS-8200-CGA-EGA-YUV-TO-VGA-video-converter-arcade-game-/260797831941
On my duo i was able to make a direct connection to the upscaler using an 8pin din (duo is modified for rgb) to the RGB and sync pins on the upscaler.
The genesis is said to natively output rgb with correct cable. Some sources i have read say the signal does not need to be amplified. others say i need to build a sync stripper like this one:
http://www.mmmonkey.co.uk/composite-sync-stripper-lm1881/
Can anyone shed any light on this. I built a cable using direct connection of the rgb and sync pins on the genny straight to the rgb and sync pins on the upscaler. It did not work.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

That board is extremely pissy. I had zero luck getting a PCE to sync with it although after a LOT of work a guy I know did find just the right amp for it.

The Genesis signal was similarly a pain in the ass. I can't remember the details.

SNES and Saturn were no problem. It works beautifully with CPS2 and MVS, unsurprisingly.

How about trying one of those Sync Strike units, for use with that particular scaler? I don't have one myself, but people on the System 11 shmup boards mentions it quite often. There's even a thread for it.
CHECKPOINT!
There is a perverted Japanese businessman in every Swiss PCE fan.

My Duo syncs with the board no problem, but my genny does not. According to a forum i read it has to do with how the genny uses the sync. its not a pure sync, its mixed. The sync stripper supposedly will fix that, but i was hoping someone could give me conformation on that. I really don't wanna pay an arm and a leg for a sync stripper board either. push comes to shove i will attempt to make one. I just don't know how to properly use it in line with my rgb cable.

the geni offers sync and composite at the port
the sig doesnt need amped, but should have resistors and capacitors added (look up geni scart)
