  Ok how messed up is this?  Sony has done some shady things in the past, but after finding this article last night, I don't know if I'll be buying a PS4.
  Sony has patents just coming to light that can use BIOMETRIC DATA and f*cking DNA to authenticate, track and even advertise to gamers. Also, this could be used to lockout used games.

  A similar (older) article I found also discusses Sony patents that have just come to light which use cameras and sensors to monitor your facial expressions while playing, along with heart rate, sweat level, iris size, even hair color. Hair color! Sony needs to know your f*cking hair color.

  These patents don't mean they will actually be used, but it worries me very much.  I'm strongly against this type of technology, and if it does come to fruition, it'll give me all the more reason to stick with my Turbo where the OBEYing is voluntary!

I don't mind the whole DNA thing. That's probably a long ways off, at least 10 years. Most likely won't be on the ps4.

If tradition holds, MS will just buy what's left of Sony to get it, and Nintendo will leave it out for cost reasons.

I just read they are having massive restructurings and layoffs over at Sony.  I am sure that Sony, probably a year after it is out so that they get to be the innovators, would love to see a one-time gain selling some of its tech.

The article is disturbing, but it's just another drop in the bucket of eroding privacy. Cops have been fingerprinting kindergarten classes for decades; Social Security numbers are used for anything and everything; our hair color is collected with our photo IDs; Facebook has identified all of our faces; Google Street View has photographed our homes and "oops!" tagged our wireless networks; online banking services know the names of our pets, first girlfriends, and favorite foods; telecoms fork over our browser history to anyone that asks; Androids record every keystroke and text; Apple collects whatever they want; mics on cell phones can be remotely activated while the GPS tracks our position; security cameras are on every corner and hallway; and biometic readers are already installed in school lunch programs and on laptops. People will grumble about giving their DNA to Sony, but they'll buckle as soon as they see the first "killer app."

Someone I follow on Twitter, I can't remember who, said something like, "I don't care that my cell phone can be used to spy on me because when they try it I'll probably be eating a sandwich or taking a shit." I basically agree with this.

I don't love that these jerks are spying on me, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how it's ever going to effect me. If I have reason to beleive the Ministry of Information wants to spy on me, I'll just leave the phone at home. Until they start implanting chips in people I don't see this tech being used for Holocaust level stuff or anything. Mainly it's just useless data mining to fuel ineffectual ad services. That stupid ad banner below right now trying to sell me an ebook that will make my website "effective". The whole ad industry is total bullshit.

Not to mention the impossible task of spying on something like 8 billion people. It's too much data to make use of.

  And I'm sure you've "got nothing to hide" so why care if govt or private corporations are spying on us?  Well it's true it may not affect YOU but it erodes the freedoms of your brothers and sisters.  It's all about incrementalism, and one day there will be a time when every person WILL get a micro/nanochip at birth which will be used to spy, at least, or manipulate thoughts and emotions, at worst.  The technology to do so already exists today.
  Video games are my escape from all the crap, and now they're trying to sell us our slavery through them.  Not just these crazy Sony patents, but cell phones, Facebook...  people eat it up, not realizing or too apathetic to give a shit.
