MEGADRIVE - Recommendations/ FS: genesis console
« on: February 17, 2006, 03:01:20 AM »
I just picked up a modded genesis II model with region switch to play megadrive games.  Any recommended games that aren't available on genesis or better versions of genesis games??

Also, I will be booting my Genesis model II, console only, selling for $15 shipped anywhere in the US.  PM me if interested.

Here are some I recommed playing.

Musha Aleste (best vertical shooter)
ThunderForce 2 - 4 (best horizontal shooters)
Streets of Rage 1 - 3
Castlevania Bloodlines
Contra Hard Corps
Gunstar Heroes (highly recommended)
Alien Soldier (Super rare and expensive; play this on emulator)

Monster World IV is supposed to be good. I'm waiting to get a flashable rom cart to play it in english though.

Same with Super Fantasy Zone.

Panarama Cotton is thought to be special if you've got money to burn, but I think that its probably just rare.

I remember Golden Axe III getting mixed reviews when it came out, but you might wanna give it a try if you're a fan of the series.

Golden Axe III is great, GUTS' BIGGER UNIVERSO site convinced me to play it and I really enjoyed it.

Here are games I recommend (of course they are some of my favorites too and some might not like due to my weird nostalgic reasons):

Quakshot Starring Donald Duck (This is one of the best games ever made)
Sonics (of course)
Shadow Blasters
Insector X
Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
World of Illusion Starring Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse
Phelios
King's Bounty
Shining Force 1 and 2
Gaires
Strider
Rocket Knight Adventures along with the sequel Sparkster
James Pond ( :D )
Taz Mania
Ranger X

Tons more too.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

There weren't many good megadrive games that didn't come out over here, you probably already know all the good ones since they're also the expensive ones.  Just do a search on ebay for the most expensive megadrive games and 90% chance those are the ones worth owning.  Golden Axe III is one exception though, it totally rules and I think can be bought for under $20.

Then in that case, Alien Soldier, Rent-A-Hero, Dangerous Seed, Master of Weapon, Golden Axe 3, that's all I can help with on Japanese MD. Only have four JP MD games and 3 of them have had US releases.

I second Pulseman, that was a great game and really pushed the Genesis to it's limits.  Its not too expensive either which is nice!  What'll really blow your mind though is that it's made by the guys who went on to make POKEMON, f*cking insane huh?

pokemon huh?  Well then, maybe worth checking out.  Is there more than one Pulseman??  If so, I may be inclined to catch em all...

Haha no just the one Pulseman game, it was released right at the end of the MegaDrive's life.  Awesome, awesome graphics though and some incredibly cool and original level design.
