Scribblenauts

Hey I noticed TheClash has been playing Scribblenauts.  I've also been playing (super) Scribblenauts DS, and I thought I'd make a topic about it.

I remember getting intrigued by the first one, then bored, and then got Super as a gift, which has remained untouched until now.  I love the aspect of trying to "break the game" by navigating obstacles in a totally unintended way.  Things like the shrink ray and the jet pack come in handy for that.  Also, the use of adjectives to make things invincible, friendly etc is another thought path to take.

I'm interested in finding out more about the Wii U version (this is the first I've heard of it) and whether it includes the adjectives or indeed anything else new.

Hopefully it will still contain terrified theologians and violent, agressive cartographers.

Coincidentally, I just bought the WiiU version yesterday. I've only put about 30 minutes into it so far, but it's really a good time. I also like that I can play it on the game pad without the TV. Yes, it has adjectives. I can't say whether it has anything new as the only Scribblenauts game I've played prior was the first one, and I only played a bit of that one.

I bought it mainly to play with my son, who's in Kindergarten. I thought this would help him with his spelling and creativity. So far, he loves it.

wow, I thought it would be a little advanced for that.  Oh, hang on, you do the spelling right?  I think it will be great for his imagination/latteral thinking.

He does the spelling on the smaller words, but if he wants to do large words, I help him out. And yeah, it's great for his imagination and problem solving. It's funny listening to some of the possibilities he comes up with for solving the puzzles.

Lol, I bet.  Gimme some examples, it's hard trying to explain to a non-scribblenaut why it's funny that you had a caffinated microscopic bomb disposal expert defusing landmines.

I am loving the game so far.  The adjectives do make the game fun, though making your character "flying tiny fast" definitely seems like an unfair advantage.

I have had a few good laughs so far, such as when I was holding poison when I talked to a guy who said he was hungry.  Went to put some random food in my hand to give it to him and when the poison fell on the floor he jumped on it and ate it.

There was a stage where aliens would not leave until they "got what they wanted.". I typed virgin and a woman in a white dress was just what they ordered.

Also, who would've thought putting a dead serial killer as the secret ingredient in pizza would be so delicious?

The game is a blast to play, and I am 29 years old.

Quick list of some of the better objects:
Arial scarf (lets you fly, like many things, it's just quirky)
Mech (powerful mech I found when typing in "mechanosaur".  Can kill a Cthulu in 2 hits!)
Teleporter (takes you to a secret lab)
Time machine (takes you to the past)
Arcade machine (lets you play a mini-game)
Shrink ray
Balloons
Rocket Boots
Intangibility ray

*edit* a few more:
Harmless antimatter (attracts anything to it, but doesn't destroy it)
small/tiny RC helicopter (tap to control it)
Sonic [flying object] makes it very fast - and powerful if you're lifting something.
cannibalistic [object] if you're have trouble with an invincible steel door, drop a cannibalistic invincible steel door on it.
raincloud/tempest etc for putting out fires.  water is innefective, ice is better, but a raincloud keeps going
Jackhammer (for rocks)
I'm going through right now trying to finish the advanced levels and get the final few merits.

Scribblenauts is, indeed, an entertaining game.

I just beat the game yesterday (still have more stars to get, but reached 60).

Two more things that had me laughing were:

1.)  There was a vulture that wanted something to eat, but everything was alive.  Shockingly, the game let me feed it a "dead baby."

2.)  When you beat the game, the wizard from the opening cinema is standing at the farm.  I shot him with a death ray and he petrified me, just like he had done to the sister in the intro.


I enjoyed the game enough where I will probably go into it and get the rest of the stars.  10+ hours of gameplay just to get through the normal stages was definitely worth the price of admission.
