blech. not a fan of monster hunter, personally.
to me it comes across as WoW, but without the huge online multiplayer.
so basically a time vacuum.

That sounds more like the Phantasy Star Portable games to me :P But I can see where you're coming from. MH is best enjoyed in local multiplayer.

lol, totally forgot those came out...
but yeah, I only know one person who plays monster hunter, and he's kind of just totally nuts and grinds my patience away after about 45 minutes, so i don't think i'll be playing those games anytime soon.

I managed to get a friend interested in MH just when I was starting out as well, he's more hardcore than I am now, so I guess I should consider myself lucky in that regard :D Spontaneous PSP multiplayer just doesn't seem happen in this part of the world...
But yes, enormous timesinks

The "original" (to psp) Legend of Heroes trilogy is pretty hacked up, but still enjoyable IMO....now Trails in the Sky (the newest in the series in the US) is by far one of the most enjoyable modern games I've played in quiet some time.

More greats:

Jeanne D'arc
Ultimate GnG
Brave Story
Twinbee Collection
Parodius Collection
Gradius Collection
Salamander Collection
MGS Peacewalker
Half Minute Hero
Disgaea 1&2
Metal Slug Anthology
Genesis Collection
Capcom Collections
Gurumin
Lunar Silver Star Harmony
Gundam/Macross series

I've been getting into some PSP as of late too!  I've got the Gradius and Half Minute Hero games- pretty fun stuff.  And I totally agree about the Legend of Heroes games, great stuff!! If only there was more time to play all these RPGS!!  TOO MANY!!!

I also really enjoyed Taito's Space Invaders Extreme.  Pretty rad stuff.  I'll have to check out more rhythm and music games.  Any suggestions for those?  Its cool to have more options for quick pick up and play games vs. having to invest time in an RPG.

From the top of my head DJMax? Haven't played it, but the music's (or what I've heard from it) is pretty good :)

Yeah, I used to love playing MH. After well over 1000 hours though, my interest started to wane.

I didn't know Space Invaders Extreme was decent, I'll have to look for that eventually.  On that note, in some googling, I found there were 3 or 4 Space Invaders games for the PSP, but only Extreme made it out here, I might try to track them all down.

On Legend of Heroes, since there's HD versions being released for PS3(in Japan), I think that may give the rest of the series a better chance to be released out here(on PSP, PS3, or Steam).  Also, Legend of Heroes 8 was just announced for PS3 & Vita!  http://the-magicbox.com/1212/game121216c.shtml

Crisis core I almost beat a while back, too bad I've completely forgotten what the hell was going on.
I'll have to sit down with that again.

Aghhh.  Yeah you have to beat Crisis Core.  I wasn't really that satisfied with it, but the story - and the ending - is epic.

I can't add any recommendations not already made, other than that I enjoy the Lego games (available on every system and generally better on consoles anyway).  If you want to fall out of love with your PSP, pick up a copy of Dungeon Explorer.

I'll say Crisis core is great too, I also like the Prinny games as they are hard but rewarding when you get good at them.

Has anyone mentioned the redone Ys games yet?  I really like Chronicles, the soundtrack alone was worth it t me.

Prinny 1 was awesome, took forever, but i finally curb stomped that game a while back, never got around to prinny 2: DooPD
Ys goes without saying round these parts, though I still need Chronicles, I've got 7 and i'm playing oath right now.

My recommendations are:

GTA LCS
GTA VCS
Ace Combat X
Burnout Legends
God of War (both of them)
Echochrome
Echoshift
Metal Gear Solid Peace Walker
MGS Portable Ops
Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max
Monster Hunter (any of them)
Syphon Filter (both)
Darkstalkers
There are probably more, but of the games I own, those ones are great fun.
