Bought another PS3 - Holiday Bundle
« on: January 07, 2013, 03:41:19 AM »
Ok so I bought this bundle on black Friday for $199:

My Brother-In-Law had me hunt him one down, I saw how fast this system was moving and bought it for some reason. I have an older PS3 - the MGS 80GB bundle that can still play PS2 games. It works fine but is pretty loud when the fans kick in. I did upgrade the HD to 250 gig.

This new PS3 is pretty sexy, and very quiet and small. But then I keep telling my self if this was a stupid purchase.

I have a Wii, Xbox 360, and now a 2nd PS3. I think my initial plan was that I wasn't going to hop on the next gen consoles coming out (with exception to the Wii-U). I don't know. I didn't have the bundle-in games (Infamous 1 & 2, Uncharted 1 & 2) and I think that is kinda how I justified this. Also told myself the "it's another bluray player" which we did need one more. Maybe online gaming inside the house?

Someone talk some sanity into me......do I keep or return this sucker back to Best Buy.

One thing that is nice is downloaded purchases can play on multiple consoles. I got kids and thinking of setting up one of the PS3's in the game room. But not sure that is worth another $200....lol

I dont like the sliding top. Put me off immediately.. So cheap. A regular flap wouldve been better, like the original ps and ps2 slim. My favourite is PS3 Slim.

It'll probably be worth it in the long run.  Even if as just a back up for when your other PS3 goes out.  I have ye ole 60 GB, I hope it keeps chugging along.  It's also a good thing a PSN account can span several systems!

I actually thought the sliding top was cool. Yes it is cheap, but the way it slides over was pretty genius.

And yeah Paranoia I was thinking of this as a backup. Seems kinda funny to buy it now since in my head the price would probably be about the same by the time that happens if not lower. Maybe cool to keep for head to head gaming. I am also thinking of a PS Plus account, the free games they throw in is pretty sweet.

Keep in mind most if not all of the games you buy or get for "free" while being a member of PS Plus stops working when you are no longer a member, unless they changed that recently.

I wasn't a fan of it either, but then I watched an unboxing for it on YouTube.  If the PS3 is vertical, like I keep mine, the sliding top works like a 'soft eject' when it opens.  The one thing I can't stand is the grooves on the sliding top.  Damn dust collectors.

I'd say keep it for a back up. My 80gig just died, hadn't realized how much I actually used it until it was gone. Don't forget to back up your files periodically, you can't retrieve them from a dead system.
