Samurai Shodown II with Gen-man.  Got ten years practice and can't be beat.  Even the mega cheap final boss has issues with me and my superior cheapness.

Hahaha... Well said as your talking about me as well :P

I had been playing a lot of Baseball Stars 2 on the Neo Geo lately.  Once I figured out how to f*ck over the computer-controlled team, I dominate the shit out of it.

Also was pretty good at Super Puzzle Fighter.  It's the only game that I've ever 1cc'ed in an arcade.

That reminds me. Neo Geo Cup 98 Plus Color for NGP. Like most (all?) SNK sports games its really fun...but then I found the exact spot to stand where I can score every time. Scores like 34-1 become common at that time and the game wasn't as fun.

Off the top of my head (not complete list), I can crush many games (no cheats, obviously):

RANT: For shoot-em-ups, it's not just about 1CC'ing, I can RECOVER from death and still beat the game. I think that's actually more difficult in many games (recovering with no/few power-ups) than simply playing a perfect game (where, DUH, you have full-firepower the entire time). Many SHOOT-EM-UP folks who pursue the vaunted "1CC" are pussies, in my opinion, because they never develop the skills to RECOVER. This applies to any game, really, where power-ups are important. The Gradius series, I've argued countless times, is actually totally beatable even if you f*ck-up, but it is very challenging and you have to have different strategies (i.e. how best to use the handful of power-ups you'll get).

Time Soldiers (arcade, don't let the horrible SMS port ruin this game. Also, I never tried the emulation but without the dual rotating joysticks I don't think you can fully appreciate the game)

Kaboom! (Atari 2600) STILL ONE OF THE BEST GAMES, EVER
Robocop (arcade) SO DAMN EASY, but fun.
Rush-N-Attack (arcade, NES)
Spy Hunter (arcade, NES)
Gradius (arcade, NES, PCE)
Gradius II (ha! Just kidding, I still haven't mastered this)
Salamander/Lifeforce (NES, PCE)
Parodius (PCE, SFC)
Contra (NES)
Super Contra (NES)
Jackal (NES)
Wonder Boy (SMS) and Adventure Island (NES)
Wonderboy III: Monster Lair (OK, I can easily f*ck-up at some points in the last few stages, preventing a 1CC, but I still consider this pretty damn good).

Lots of old-skool shoot-em-ups (too many to list):
Tiger Heli (NES)
Blazing Lazers (I don't play on pussy mode)
Spriggan
Thunderforce series (on Genesis)
Legendary Wings (NES)
Cyber Core
Super Star Soldier
Soldier Blade
GOT/LOT (fun, but easy)

I can't even waste my time listing really easy games...

Sonic 3 (without S&K, which I don't much care for).

The first special stage, I have beaten with the TV off going by the sound coming directly through my stereo. Only took a few tries.

With the TV on, I have beaten the entire game without getting hit, and that's without using Super Sonic or even bonus stages at all. I deliberately avoid them for the challenge (and to shorten the overall clear-time of the game).

I, too can clown the computer in the arcade on this game. I've never really been able to play against a human player though. If only people still played the XBLA version...

I pretty much own Ninja Spirit and Bonk's Adventure whenever I sit down to play them, though I know there are others on this forum who can crush my high scores.  I'm also pretty good at Devil's Crush.  I'd love to have a competition involving any of those games (though Bonk could take forever ... unless we were all playing simultaneously!).

I'm getting there with Star Parodier and Spriggan.

I agree with esteban to a point, but I think a lot of us have had to learn to recover to get that precious 1cc.  I haven't been able to clear many games with 1cc (yet) but a lot of them I played the hell out of and played through multiple times via continues, cheats, magazine strategies, online strategies, roll-up-your-sleeves-and-memorize-the-damn-thing strategies.  I love trying to achieve a 1cc clear in the games I play, but that is mere a notch on the pegboard in most cases.  I still find other ways to enjoy my favorite games. :)

Btw, the list of games you crush is quite impressive.  We have to get together sometime just so I can watch some of your strategies. :P

Heck yes, one of these days we are going to play le video games, drink beer/soda/coffee and cry. I'm serious about getting teary-eyed.

When I was ranting last night, I should have mentioned that it's the folks who essentially STOP PLAYING SERIOUSLY when they f*ck-up in a shooter that I'm chastising. Personally, I never understood why anyone would have this mentality before beating a game. After a person has beaten a game, I can totally understand the desire to "1CC" (a personal challenge that encourages replaying/perfecting...get your money's worth from the game). So, I should have clarified that bit. DIE FIGHTING, I say , even if it seems futile.

Anyway, to put things in perspective, I still get my ass kicked when I play: R-Type (later levels), Raiden (later levels), any pinball game, any vs. fighting game, probably most "bullet hell" shooters (I haven't spent much time with them, I'll eventually get there, but I'm still playing older games), etc. etc.

I can destroy the first few stages of Raiden (arcade, PS1, PCE), but I still choke on the later levels. I love Raiden, but I just cry when I get to (what I think is the last boss) and get absolutely nowhere. Maybe the "last" boss changes form to a smaller ship (I rarely make it that far)? Anyway, I can't explain why I can't crack Raiden, but I'm pretty sure it's because my paths/patterns are ingrained in me (I haven't altered them in years) and I'm repeatedly creating difficult situations. Also, I panic and instead of tapping the pad/stick to avoid/dodge bullets, I choke (paralysis) or mash the pad/stick (more often).

AND, of course, I wish there were more shoot-em-up fans in the world...so I really shouldn't go off insulting them .

Well the shoot 'em up genre has always been, for me, a genre that I haven't been particularly good at, but enjoy playing, except for some of the needlessly impossible ones.

I believe the first, and perhaps only, shmup I've beaten was Star Parodier. I've got almost to the end of Axelay on the SNES. (which is one of those ones you have to beat twice to get the proper ending for, a la Ghouls and Ghosts.)

Samurai Shodown 1 and original Street Fighter 2. I pumped so many quarters into those machines back in the day.

I was able to beat axelay once. i never tried for the second time. Something i still need to do

Yeah, to make things difficult, you have to set it to the hardest difficulty or something like that. Don'cha just love those games?
