I never understood why the Genesis/MD Out Run had a weird-ass stage arrangement. Why would one region have the stages in a different order than another? What is the point of that? And why did the US Genesis Out Run get the jacked-up boring stage order? EGM and Mega Play said that Genesis/MD Out Run sounds like you're listening to a CD. And it's true! Nobody can dispute that. Granted it's a CD full of Genesis/MD music, but still.

Right?  You'd think they would have at least changed the track arrangement according to the region they released the game on.

And I agree about the music.  It's far more arcade faithful than the PCE version.  However, the PCE lacks FM sound, so I try not to fault it for that & focus on the graphics.

That isn't just a MD/Genny concern.

There is an arcade JPN course arrangement and an arcade oversea course arrangement.

PCE Outrun f.e. used the oversea arrang. (ehich I also like much better).

Not sure which of the MD/Genny used which arrang., but the JPN MD used the JPN AC arrang. iirc.

LOL, why are there different level arrangemnt in games like sinistron, paranoia etc. ?

Maybe some japanese guy(s) thought, after the japanese version was released, it isn't the best arrangement, and we could make that better for the oversea market. or some oversea guy(s) thought, hey that japanese arrangement looks like crap, let's have it changed, as they always have to change something for other markets. see booklets, covers, even musics and unecessary visual chnages/censoring and all that crap.

I'll never forgive them for gimping/dropping the digital percussion samples in the music. Or using the FM chip for certain sound effects instead of using samples like the Arcade machine. It wasn't like the Arcade samples were insanely technical and couldn't be fit on a cartridge. Ruined the whole game experience for me from day 1.

I always thought it was amazing the disparity in the quality of Genesis music between different composers/devs - games like Revenge of Shinobi and Sonic 2 make that FM chip really perform.
