I think the SMS was capable of some very awesome music. When I finally got a system capable of FM I spent several evenings going through all my SMS games switching between my two units comparing the music. I really like both versions but the FM especially was just so sweet sounding.

One thing that always stood out to me in SMS songs is the drums.  They're just crunchy static but they sound so good.

After I got the FM mod, I actually found myself preferring the original PSG audio. I think I spent too much time with those games as a kid to accept them sounding different, haha.
