! No longer available

This was actually one of the better LJN games. Boring, perhaps, but controls/hit detection were OK.

This game traumatized me when I was a kid. I'll never forgive Westone for making such a travesty.

Well maybe not. I can't stay mad at you, Westone. *hugs*

Is what I played all there is to it? I got the feeling I might be missing 75% of the gameplay somewhere.

All you do is travel between the two ports looking for Jaws and collecting sea shells. Once you find Jaws and wear his health down you enter the final sequence where you ram the filthy fish with your boat, which is easier said then done.

Jaws wasn't as bad as people make it out to be. Yeah the last part was a tad hard, but I mean come on, I beat the game when I was like 12. If it was really that hard I'd not have been able to do so. I think the main part of Jaws that is the problem is it is not that long. There just is not enough content in the game.

It should have been a 2600 or Colecovision game, not a Nintendo game.

No, with variety of challenges/objectives (in shootemup scenes) and a nice overworld quest getting items...I actually like the flow of the game. The shootemup stages underwater should have had different objectives and goals (kill x fish, plant x lobster traps, rebait x hooks, dodge swarm of barracuda for x seconds, escort a baby seahorse to mommy seahorse across the screen, have scrolling full-on horizontal/vertical shooting stages, have mini-boss encounters, etc.)

I meant as it is. It obviously could have been spruced up to be a good retro-style NES game. I don't think that was within LJN's capability, though.

Oh, I see—it could have been implemented as a neat 2600 game in its current form.

Yes, I agree :)

As stated above this fish 'em up was developed by our good friends at Westone, creators of the Wonder Boy series. Shocking right!? :)

FISH-EM-UP

And...Westone? Wow.  Totally below their caliber of work.
