How the hell does the CD-I get a newsgroup, and the NEC consoles don't?!?!

It's nothing to worry about. If anything the CD-I fans needs this more than do NEC fans. Besides, there's plenty of discussion groups for people starving for NEC related topics.

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

In Europe CD-i had a bigger following (not huge, mind you, but certainly bigger than North America)...

Also, there used to be a lot more CD-i fansites and online resources. I've seen a lot of them disappear... reminds you how ephemeral the internet is.

The CD-i was indeed pretty popular in Europe (especially in the UK). Most CD-i developers were from Europe too.

I remember that they used to have a CD-i standing in the corner (it was always turned on) in the local electronics store many years ago (it was there for years!). They never used it and I always wanted to ask them if they would sell it to me, but I never did. When they redecorated the store, the CD-i disappeared. Made me a bit sad.

CD-I is junk. The only really good games for it are few and far between. The best ones can be had on other platforms or pc for that matter, like Burn Cycle and 7th Guest, both also for Dos pc cd-rom.

There are no "really good" games for the CD-i. Everything is utter crap.

On a side note -- it was never really designed for games (it is another "multimedia machine" and they're all crap), that's why they all suck. It is like trying to develop games for a DVD-player.

Worse even more for it,cause it didn't even equal a v-cd player without the mpeg adapter. Thats all Philips was really pushing it for anyway after failing to really grasp the laserdisc player market. It really was not at all built for good games at all. As close as you get is some slow paced stuff like FlashBack where the hardware doesn't have to do much.
