PS4 or Xbox One
« on: August 14, 2014, 04:50:49 PM »
Would like to get some advice from any of you that have one, or both, consoles. I have a PS3 now but the next versions of my favorite games, Assassin's Creed Unity and Arkham Knight, are only next gen. There are exclusives from both systems that I'd like to play, but nothing really pushes me over the edge. Loved the Infamous games so wouldn't mind playing the PS4 one and I haven't played a Halo game since Halo 2. The Master Chief collection will help me cover the ones I've missed and Titan Fall also looks great. Have reasons to pick up both, but still over a small library of games.

PS4 isn't backwards compatible and I don't own any 360 games so that is not an issue. Will be until October or so before I pick one up, so it might come down to a price drop/sale or bundle that makes the decision easier.  Any suggestions?

I have a PS4. Got it on launch day. Bought Killzone. Good enough game. The console just pissed me off though.

No 3D capability until a month or 2 ago (not a huge deal, but 3D on the PS3 for a long time)
No media server capability. (still using my PS3 or my smart TV for that.
PS3 ports on the PS4 (so why did I buy the next system when I can play the same games on PS3)
No backwards compatibility (just kinda suck, not that it is an industry standard)
No killer games....still! (Some good games for sure, but nothing new to really showcase the device)

I'm waiting for Destiny to make my decision on whether to turf it or not. I still play my PS3 all the time though.

My wife at least plays the Lego games on my PS4 otherwise, wouldn't get used.

Don't know anything about the Xbone. I know is originally cost more. Easy purchase decision then.

I should probably change that. Was thinking that when I initially started this. Not so much a vs. thing. I think "or" is probably the word I was looking for.

Home console gaming died for me when they introduced downloadable content. No goddamn reason a $60 game shouldn't be complete right out of the box. I say take option three and don't waste your money on new consoles that really, just aren't all that much more impressive than the ones that preceded them. I say explore an older system that is new to you.

At this point, there's not enough exclusive to warrant a purchase for either.Id say you're better off holding out until later on.

I am very happy with my Xbox One. Games like Titanfall are ridiculously fun. And I have Destiny pre-ordered.

Most people prefer the PS4 though.

Wait until something released on either console really excites you.  In between now and when that special game is released, the price of the system will drop, or you might get a free pack-in game bundle.

I did this last gen and it was very rewarding.  I was able to bring $35 into a gamestop years into the PS3 lifecycle and walk out with 7 good dirt cheap games.  The price of the system had fallen by half at that point, so I think it was a pretty good value.  For me the only game series that will push me over the edge will be Fallout, which I still play weekly.
THANKS TO ALL PCEfx members who have helped fix my hardware and add to my games library!  What a thrill!

AC Unity and Batman do excite me, but that's about it. Only maybe 3 or 4 games total are out for each system that I actually want to play and only a couple are exclusive to each system. If Unity and Batman were on PS3, I wouldn't even be considering a PS4. Have to pay to play...or wait, which I'm not good at.

Out of the two only PS4 mildly interests me, f*ck Microsoft and their shit practices...

Wii U is a blast, and should not be unconsidered pretty much the best current gen platform for overall gaming as odd as that is...lol

I'd wait a bit longer, if I were you. I've got a PS4 and bought it at launch. While I do like it, and while I think PS+ is a great value, I have exactly ONE retail game: Wolfenstein. I had Killzone, Assassin's Creed, Knack, and Tomb Raider, but once I finished them I had no incentive to hold on to them. And frankly, those games weren't that great to begin with.

There are some great indies and downloadables, and many of those are free with PS+. But honestly, I don't see a killer app yet. Destiny is coming, but that's multiplatform. I think Driveclub and Little Big Planet 3 are the only exclusives I'm interested in this fall...unless I'm forgetting something.

But it seems like everything is hitting in 2015, so I think you're probably good waiting until then.
Games I Need: Bonk 3 (HuCard), Legend of Hero Tonma, Magical Chase, Soldier Blade, Super Air Zonk.

Got one to sell? PM me!

I'm holding off on either purchase, and to be totally frank, I'm probably not going to buy either until like 2016 when they're $200 or less (unless something really grabs my attention before then).

I never have time any more to sink 50+ hours into a game, and if I do it's probably going to be part of my backlog of stuff from PCE and PS1/2 eras.

two words... Last Guardian

Lol... those same two words inspired me to pick up a PS3 years ago. Sigh...
