Make a console with graphics hardware that's not 15 years out of date?

I think what they're doing now is a step in the right direction. Don't know if it will "save" it though. I think they should have waited until they had a few more solid titles like the ones they've released recently before they put the system on shelves. Best thing they've done lately was have a free downloadable game included with Mario Kart 8. Probably pushed a few people to get one.

Dudes, Wii U is so uncommon now against other mainstream consoles, let's call it underground. Lol.

They tried to make me do a recap

It needs a price cut and/or a cheaper model without the pad (make iOS and Android apps to replace the functionality), and it needs more games.  Nintendo has the cash reserves - they can hold on to it and slowly lose it or they can spend it to buy up some IP.

Buying Sega alone wouldn't save it, but buying Capcom too would. New Mega Man games exclusive to it, perhaps?

If they bought out Capcom wouldn't they also accurie their debt?

I am asking not trying to state some quasy statment...

I think the WiiU is doing just fine ....

For the most part it has bee quality games IMO...and the slew of games to come out soon has my wallet hurting.

That Bayonetta (with the first game included) has my attention and a preorder from me

The Mario Kart 8 is fan fking tastic

Both Zelda games ...yes please..

Never been big into Smash Brawls but it's been a consistant system seller for years since the GC (The N64 to me was more of a happy accidant that grabed people).

Granted my WiiU game library is SMALL it is only because I am a cheap SOB that likes to wait for buy two get one free at Gamestop .......

it needs to focus more on the balance board and a new Tony Hawk Ride in order to pick up traction.

All interesting points. Questions though,

- Can they get rid of the tablet controller? Do the pre-existing games that utilize it become unplayable? They would definetly need to be releasing a bigger stream of quality titles if they did this, because the system would have no way to differenciate itself from other last gen systems besides the first party titles. Not that the controller drew a crowd, but at least it was a line in the sand for it's uniqueness (is that word?).

- Someone suggested it is doing fine. I would agree that the games that are good are worth the ride, but to the casual video game player, do they generate enough excitement to buy the system? Plus, as far as I know the sales outside of the first party titles are not great. So if there is only one Nintendo developed game every 5 to 6 months (non DLC of old and smaller new games), what happens in between? I hear a lot of comparisons to Sega Saturn numbers for adoption rate. The Saturn was awesome, but it is something to consider sales wise.

- Can one new Zelda game really put them back in contention? Maybe?

Basically I'm saying, what can put them back in the ring with the other existing consoles and extend the current theorized life expectancy of the Wii U? I know Bayonetta 2 will probably end up being a great game too, but is that really going to drive a lot of sales to propel the system's longevity?

In a business sense, it isn't doing fine at all.  Losing money is not fine, especially not when it's nearing its second birthday.

Wind Waker HD, Super Mario U (& Super Luigi!), Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Rayman Legends, The Wonderful 101, Pikmin 3, Sonic All-Star Racing, NES Remix 1 & 2, Mario Kart 8, Scribblenauts Unmasked, Super Mario 3D World, ZombiU, Shovel Knight, DKC Tropical Freeze, and Lego City Undercover have all brought success to my Wii U.

Especially Lego City Undercover... I @#$% love that game!

It seems the Wii U is very similar to the Gamecube....hardly any third-party support with first-party games to keep it afloat.  The key has always been third-party.  You gotta make the game development process easy and don't have to go through huge loops to get your product approved, have hardware that is enticing enough for them to play with (powerful hardware that is cost effective), and technology that targets the mainstream and hardcore audience (these days good online gaming & social media, although I dislike them both).  I've study the game industry, and it's always the same.  When a console has a large variety of games, it will do really well.  Third-party doesn't like the Wii U, and there aren't any signs they will ever support the Wii U in the near future.

Nintendo will just have to keep pumping out their own games until the system's successor comes out in a couple of years.  Nintendo has already said they are working on the next system over a year ago.
