Looking for a "Civilizations" type game. Suggestions?
« on: October 14, 2014, 01:18:49 PM »
I've been having a hankering to play Sid Meier's Civilizations. But, I do not have anything to play it on. Or at least I don't think so.

At my disposal I have an iMac, a Wii, a PS2, and of course a TG16.

So any suggestions, short of buying an old PC, to where I can play civilizations, or something similar to it?

Is there a version of DosBox for mac?  That may be a good way to play the original.

They made Civ 2 for the original Playstation. You could play that on a PS2.

You can buy Civ V for Mac.  (How old is your iMac?).  Civ V is imo the best and I've played them all.  There's also Civ Revolutions on PS3 which maaaay have been ported to Wii.

Im torn on which civ I like best.  There were some things i loved about 4 that werent there in 5 but five is so much better balanced.   Though civ 1 and 2 are always fantastic.  Civ 3 didnt grab me as well...

Ever play any of the heroes of might and magic games?

I have not.

I may just check out the Civilization for PS1 if I can find it cheap at a local shop. If I'm not happy with it, I guess I may just need to go buy an old PC and play it on there. Then I can get Castles too!

Civ II is good, but do you have a SNES? They ported the first game and it's mouse compatible. Civ I > Civ II

I do not own an SNES, but that may be reason enough to buy one!
Well that and Mario Paint.

Try freeciv. I'm pretty sure you can get it working on a mac.

Not only that, but apparently it can be played in a web browser now.  I haven't tried it out yet, but I'm very tempted (I just don't want 4 hours to magically disappear right now).
