Did I make a mistake in not buying these?

Work has me driving all over Wisconsin this week and I stopped by a pawn shop that carries games.  They had two used original X-box systems there.  Both were used and only one came with the composite audio/video cable and a controller.  Both were marked $23.99 even the one without the AV cable and controller.  Both looked well used and one had some deliberate scratching across the front of it.  No clue if they worked or not and the employees didn't know either.

I don't know much about these systems, but do know there are people out there who fix em`.  I was told you can mod them to run emulators on them.  The scratches could be fixed by buying a while new shell for it. 

I passed on both...  I could go back there tomorrow if I finish with my customer earlier, but its a two hour drive back there.

the emulators on the OG xbox are outdated. You would be better off using an ouya for emulation unless there are XBOX games you want to play.

$25 for an Xbox is a bit overpriced in my opinion, but I am cheap.  If you do get one, make sure they let you test it before purchase.  It could already be modded which is a nice bonus, especially if someone already put a bigger hard drive in there as well.

That's a better deal then what I typically see out in the wild in Texas. People usually want $50 and you are lucky if it comes with more then just the system not including cables power cord and controller with no guarantee it works.


In fact it seems harder to find an Xbox that has not been moded it seems.


I have one I bought at a goodwill for $10 with no cables and then right before moving to San Antonio TX I found a complete in box cob just sitting in front of the dumpster at my old apartment. Had everything. System wouldn't read disks any longer but I was able to test out the goodwill system which did work.


So now I have a boxed system with working Xbox and a non workig Xbox    The are both in storage in Victoria tx and I have no plans on moving anything in storage until my wife and I move into our first house. Which might be another year from now depending on stuff. Lol.

$25 for a PS1, Xbox, or Dreamcast is too much. They can all be found for $20 or cheaper for the first two.

The pre-N64/PS1 emulators run flawlessly.

Sounds like I dodged a bullet by not buying them.  Last thing I need is another project trying to get them working.

The OG Xbox is a great console, just get it at the right price.

I bought a used one for like $10 loose.  The DVD drive was failing and wouldn't play any games and barely could read music cd's.  These things are falling apart in their old age yet my Model one MD and NES Toaster edition work perfectly fine.  I can't wait for the days of the XBONE's and PS4 failures they might last 10 years before blowing apart.

Why the 360 and PS3 didn't last three years before they had manufacture flaws that cased the system to brick on mass

The Wii would probably be a better choice for an emulation box and they can be found pretty cheap now.

there you go. I haven't tested it but apparently you can get proper component output out some of the emulators.
