Anyone want a PS2 mod chip? (Raffle, I guess?)
« on: December 11, 2014, 03:49:22 PM »
My wife was cleaning out a closet in our basement and found this PS2 mod chip that I had bought years ago. I had completely forgotten about it, and actually own a Japanese PS2 Slim, so I have no use for it whatsoever.

I'll ship it for free. It's still in its little plastic seal, and hasn't been touched. Unfortunately, I know nothing about it as a friend of mine was going to do the mod work for me but never got around to it.

I can't imagine that anyone would want this. But I thought I'd check with you guys, just in case. If more than one of you wants it, I'll draw names out of a hat or something.

Have at it!

EDIT: I just did a quick Google search and found this

There's that easy option of getting Free McBoot software on a memory card and pretty much it's plug'n'play after that. No risk/need of chips and solder work these days. I might've wanted this some day, but now I'd just get Free McBoot from Bernie.

Woah, wasn't aware of such a thing. Was using Swap Magic for years until I recently bought a JP PS2. Thanks.

I too was using Swap Magic, though haven't needed it in quite some time.  I would usually use Swap Magic & rip a game onto the PS2 HDD, so I didn't have to keep swapping.  I kept a few Jp games on there, namely, PC Genjin, Transformers Tatakai, & Ys 5.  I beat PC Genjin, but not the others yet.  I may have to get that Bernie card dealy someday.  I've been going back & attempting to play catch up on PS2 games, instead of my usual PS3 backlog(though, I have a PS1 backlog as well which I occasionally delve into).  Speaking of which, does anyone know if anyone's found a way to rip PS1 games onto the PS2 HDD?

To give you an idea of how this works..  I have installed a 500 gig HD in my Phat PS2, and loaded a ton of PS2 games onto it, ones that I wanted.  One of which was the English translated Dragon Quest V....  Nice game by the way. Awesome way to play those Japanese games.

Ah, so there was a DQ 5 remake released on the PS2. I didn't know about that.

I kinda quit at DW 4 on NES, though I did buy DW VII for PS1, but it sits unplayed/untouched in my backloggery TO DO list of other PS1/PS2 games, etc... For a time there, I waited around for a DQ 5 SNES fan patch, but that never happened or maybe it did now, but I lost interest.
