Thinking about streaming. Where do i begin

Hey everyone. So I like to post the games i'm currently playing on facebook and instagram, and many of my friends would like me to stream. Problem is i don't really know what would be necessary to stream with my current setup. I play most of my older console using EURO SCART cables connected to a Sony PVM monitor. I really don't know what i would need to get these games up and running on twitch.

I figured I would make a thread to discuss it. Maybe it would be helpful to others out there as well.

I already got a RGB to component box, should be able hook it up to that.

So to use an Elgato HD, you'd either need a TV that has an HDMI Video Out or the console would need to output via HDMI? Do they make one that accepts Component in?  What about Composite in? Would there be any delay to the TV if it was plugged in between the console and the TV?

Gah, so many questions...

It has component and composite in although I'm not sure the cables are included. I really can't answer as I dont own one. :-( but I am looking into it.

Heres a review of the Elgato HD capture device.

Seems like the easiest way to capture old game footage is to get a XRGB framemesiter. Thats just so expensive.

I have the Elgato HD and it gets confused by the RGB to component converter.  Once you plug in component cables it's looking for something higher quality than 240p and can't pick it up.

Not sure if there's a solution, but I think it's more a software problem than hardware.  Don't even know who to ask about this stuff.

I've been limited to S-video for my recordings of older consoles because of this.

I learned this the hard way tonight. Super frustrating because you think it will almost work. How is it with S-video recording?

Just like a % of modern LCD TVs, the video input modules demand a genuine 480i signal or better in the green Luma/Y jack when using YPbPr/Component or they will reject the signal. They will still accept 240p in S-Video or Composite jacks, though. You would need a resolution doubler (AKA upscaler) to make it 480p to work in those cases or another model that supports 240p in the first place...

Luckily, I bought one that does accept 240p when using YPbPr/Component. The F03147 HD USB 2.0 Video Audio Capture Grabber - I made a note of it here for my SNES YPbPr mod thread. Fully tested, confirmed to work as I have SNES screenshots from it via YPbPr (added one below).

So using one of those devices do you split the video coming out of the console so you can still play on your tv while it's being recorded/broadcasted  by your computer or do you play directly on the computer?  Is there any noticeable lag while it's transcoding/recording?

You can still hookup to your Tv by using a splitter and view the game. Don't recommend watching the PC at least on the device I used since there was a delay.
