New Wonderboy coming soon!
« on: January 31, 2015, 06:45:53 PM »
Kind of a strange story, but, apparently a game called Flying Hamster 2(I have the first one, it's a bit Zonk'ish), didn't meet it's kickstarter, but apparently the Wonderboy series creator took an interest in it, & is now basically brandish it as Monster Boy.  Here's the official site:

God I hope this isn't a mobile/Steam game only.

The Kickstarter didn't fail; they stopped it when they found a publisher.

Now they're teamed up with Ryuichi Nishizawa, co-founder of Westone and director of basically everything Wonder Boy.  I'm really looking forward to it.  I'm waiting to hear what his level of involvement will be, though.

Here is an awesome HG101 interview with Nishi regarding WB in general, if anyone wants to know more about him.

Based on the original Kickstarter goals Steam is a given.  It was never a mobile game.  The stretch goals were for all current gen consoles and portables, but I'm not sure what the publisher is forking out for now.  I'd be more than happy with a Vita release.

Ah, ok, someone who mentioned it to me I thought said something about the Kickstarter not meeting its goal.  It sounded like it's going to be on regular platforms, PS4/3, Vita, Xbox One, etc. along with Steam.

I don't really care what platform(s) it goes too, but if it's download only.... f*ck 'em.

I'm sure it'll be digital, though, if they later put it on a disc, I'll buy that as well.  Here's some more video's n' stuff, including one from when it was still Flying Hamster 2.  Apparently Michiru Yamane(Castlevania, Suikoden, Rocket Knight Adventures) was possibly going to do the soundtrack, it looks like she's working atleast on some of the music for it!

Looking pretty darn cute. Hope they make a deal with Limited Run Games as I don't think they'd bother putting out a physical copy on their own.

phsyical copy seems unlikely. maybe it will get one later on.  SInce it seems the release date won't be till the fall, properly a long long time off. :(  here's the dev's responce to comments about physically releasing discs:

We don’t have the publishing rights for the classic series, but a retail disc of Monster Boy would be awesome. Perhaps one day..in a very limited run. We’ll see ^_^

It appears if this will be PS4 and Steam then ported to other systems if it sells well. (although Xbox is listed in the offical trailer too)   basically if they get the money to continue.  they mention this several times.

There is a bunch more good information on the offical blog here

Anyway this looks pretty cool.  I'll most likely go ahead and grab the PC version to play through anyway, not going to not enjoy it just becuase no physical release.  and hey if it sells well maybe we will get one.  and even if they are just forcing monster boy into another game, it still is cool that it has the name and support.

NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)

BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere.

You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Limited Run announce a new game yesterday(Futuridium, reminds me of a Jag game, which I'm down for!) & mentioned again they have many games in the pipeline, so, I wouldn't be surprised if they already contacted the Monsterboy dev's about doing it.

Also, besides Yuzo Koshiro, there are others involved including one of my fav's, Michiru Yamane(did many of the Castlevania ost's).
