Modded N64 controller
« on: February 09, 2015, 04:37:45 AM »
I was playing Turok on N64 and was really annoyed how the Map button was L which is inconvenient to hit when using the analog stick.

So I decided to mod the controller...lol

• Added L button on face of controller
• Y axis tilt - Turok doesn't have an option for this
• Switch to flip Y axis flip on and off (very small)
• GameCube Style joystick
• Board by Micro - greatly improves accuracy of GameCube stick and makes Y Axis flip very easy
• rumble pack is powered by controller no batteries
• Purple LED - why not

Also N64 is RGB nodded and currently using a RGB to HDMI box that looks great

I got several of micro's PCBs and stick pots as well. Fine quality, great guy to deal with. They make playing N64 games a pure joy compared to the crusty old worn sticks.

Nice mod, by the way.

yeah Micro's PCB's totally rock. I really didn't know how important it was to have until I tried the N64 Gamecube style stick out from Ebay. It was garbage until using his board (stick didn't behave right).

and thanks!

I modded one of my controllers with that replacement stick / board...  totally awesome compared to the original sticks.

yeah Blue, very nice upgrade. Micro is updating his board to V3, I might grab one of those. Eventually I might put in an actual Gamecube stick if I can find a controller on cheap that is junk (but good stick).

Also I am going to add a switch to the controller light, it's cool but kind of sucks when playing in low lighting lol.

I'm eager waiting for the updated v3's firmware to be released on v2 boards.

Cool stuff!  That back light mod on the N64 console is pretty nifty.  I think I'll have to do that to mine.

I have this weird semi-normal looking N64 controller that looks like it has a tumor or something and has normally worked okay.  I think it was 3rd party, but was not the HORI one.
