Good super famicom action games?
« on: March 06, 2015, 02:53:31 PM »
Starting to discover the Super famicom library. It has many more games than the SNES!

Any really good action games on it? I'm pretty far in Zenki: Battle Raiden, and I love the game so far. I wonder if there is anything similar.

Never heard of this game, reminds me somewhat of Second Samurai on the genesis.  I, too, would be curious to see what other good action titles the SFC has to offer, particularly Japan-only games.

Psycho Dream

I'll warn ya, some parts are kinda hard, but over all the game is pretty strange and fun. Well worth getting.

Thanks Professor! That game does look a little odd, but I like swords.

I played Wolfchild. Got to the final boss, but I didn't beat him. Very bland, average game.

I've been playing some Skyblazer recently. It's my first time, and I haven't gotten beyond the half-way point yet (I think), but it's a really good game.

Stupid expensive, but if you can play it somehow, this game is pretty neat.

Majuuou or King of demons is a really good sfc exclusive action game.

Hagane is far cheaper for the sfc version and definitely one of the top action games for the system

personal favorite of mine is Sandra no daibouken. criminally underrated platformer. Really well designed and difficult levels, great soundtrack, fun story and character cast, and tight gameplay.

It's a pricey one the cheapest way to play it is a flash-cart or reproduction.

Yeah, I'd say that's the best way to go.

Thanks for this recommendation. I've been playing the T-Eng version for the last couple of days, cleared it on Normal today and will try Hard next. There's definitely some Castlevania and Contra III influence here, but the mood of the game also reminds me of Actraiser and Holy Diver in some parts (there's even a sound effect that I swear was lifted right from HD). Fun game!

No problem :^).   I agree the game is awesome, but I've never had the chance to play the whole thing through because my old tototek flashcart has trouble running it. Always seems to glitch out on the eyeball boss - I'll have to try it again. The aesthetic and tight gameplay really sell the game. Too bad an original copy costs an arm and a leg.

Mode 7 fail!

It's actually a fairly short game and not too difficult.  I didn't realize at first that the orb at the end of each level changes color, and you get a different transformation for the next stage depending on what color you pick. It also determines which ending you get (there are two).

Even non-translated it should be easy to play through, there is very little dialogue.

The final boss did take me a few tries.
