For the purposes of the average retro video game fan, at least the ones I know, this system simply cannot work. I've never met someone who buys 20 year old games and doesn't care about condition, or is interested in buying a game for a set price but doesn't care to even know if that game comes with a case or not until it arrives at their place. I've never met that guy.

Exactly,
There are people buying retro games who don't care much about condition but they're people who pick through thrift stores, garage sales and flea markets who are just looking for something cheap to bring back some childhood memories and maybe show their kids. When you have these products being sold at a premium cost as Gamestop is doing, then your audience is people looking for games in top condition.

I'm having a hard time trying to think of any place that just sells "used game" or "used anything" where you can't see the thing first, there is no description of that specific copy, and there is no way to talk to anyone about it.

dkoldies, rock30games, lukiegames, gamestop. they all do it that way, i believe they all have no questions asked return policies for a specific set of time if you are not satisfied. not sure why anyone would buy at any of these places as the pricing is usually higher than ebay anyway.

I have been wondering this as well. Some people shy away from dealing with individuals altogether. This seems to be perpetuated by a fear of dishonest seller. The assumption being that large companies have to be more honest in their dealings in order to maintain a good reputation. This is obviously wrong, but many people feel this way.

I don't know about the other stores, but gamestop accepts credit. Also, like most game stores, you get more credit than cash for tade-ins. This could be a viable way to get a game, but I wouldn't go building a collection on this principle.

There is a gamestop in Jacksonville that has retro games in store I took some pictures and a vid. They haven't had any of the pricey games around 200 in awhile. I wonder if its because of fraud on returns or trade ins.

If you're active on CAG maybe even one of the general deal sites you can catch some of the more favorable trade ins. The last big one was pretty bad, it was 50% + trade in bonus on a weekend that also had receipt codes that gave +50% trade in and another 10% from being a power up member. This caused some guys to be selling for 25 in store but you could trade it in for 29.

Well, I just got a package from Gamestop the other day, and lo and behold it's my missing copy of Quake III Arena.  They actually just sent me a whole second CIB copy, so despite their earlier screw up they have at least fixed the issue.
