picked up some Arcade PCBs
« on: April 19, 2015, 08:24:25 AM »
OK I bought some arcade boards over the weekend:

Bad Dudes
Robo cop
Buster Brothers
NBA Jam
Sky Shark
Image Fight
Atari game (non Jamma)
All for $130. Let me know thoughts on these.

I'm planning on building  a Supergun, I do have a vertical display cab that I think I could use for Sky Shark and Image Fight.

Bad Dudes holds a special place because it's typical 80s beat em up. President kidnapped, muscle shirts, tons of ninjas. Lol

$130 is a good price for that haul. Do you know if they are original or bootleg? I love Image Fight as well, only played on the arcade PCB, never owned it.

A supergun should be pretty easy to put together. I would use a normal arcade PSU if you can find one cheap enough, rather than an ATX just so you can tweak the +5v line when you need to.

Believe they are all original. I'll have to learn more about identifying bootlegs.

I always found a PC PSU has better regulation of voltage over a Happs or "arcade" power supplys plus they have 3.3v. Now if you have the ATX without the -5, I can see your logic...old PSU's with neg 5 are hard to find nowadays. Since that cab looks to be dedicated to the classics, no need to hunt out something with 3.3v(CD-ROM based hardware needs it).

As for the colors, might just need a good degauss...I see the discoloration on the top right. My experience with color calibration is usually on a too far gone tube and "fixing" it with adjusting the bias and gain is a just a stop gap until you find a replacement.

I do have a ATX supply that has the Neg 5 volts.

But I already got an arcade supply (actually got several) units. I just heard those were better because the 5v was adjustable.

And yes I actually got a degaussing tool. It already cleaned it up, but still is a little off. The game needs adjustment on blue, will try that maybe later today.
