So considering that the Squaresoft library on the Super Famicom is doubled more than the American SNES, which SFC Square titles have you played and which ones were your favorites, the ones that never made it out of Japan?

I liked Final Fantasy V, Front Mission, FM: Gun Hazard, Bahamut Lagoon, Romancing Saga series (I only played 3 but saw videos of the first two on YouTube. The gameplay and soundtracks in all 3 games remind me of Final Fantasy a whole lot.)

EDIT: 8-bit Famicom games are welcome as well.

Personally, I think (most of) the Square games on SNES/SFC are junk. The only good one is Chrono Trigger (which still is REALLY overrated).

The only bareable Japanese Square game is probably Live A Live which is pretty interesting.

I loved chrono trigger but the only other USA releases I really loved were FF3 and Secret of Mana..

I would say that the square's playstation games are junk (only thought FF7 and FF9 were ok)

but going back to the topic bahumat lagoon, seiken densetsu 3, Treasure Hunter G and FFV I wished got a western release.

I enjoyed what ive played of Seiken Densetsu 3 (never gave it a proper playthrough). I have like Final Fantsy V, even though i feel its not that good... just has a special place in my mind.

I forgot all about Mana 2.. I actually bought a flash cart for my SNES just so that I could play the fan translated game on it (because emulation isn't an option). It's a very nice game, and together with Mystic Quest, the only good Mana game.

I think the PS1 Square games are junk too. In fact, I think all the PS1 games are junk (PS2, on the other hand...THERE we have some nice Square games).

My favorite Square games are on the Game Boy and the NES.

Seeing as how Enix(Much better than Square) is now SquareEnix, I thought I would throw out there- TerraNigma.

Absolute brilliant game, also loved the Palladins Quest series(Goofy colours and all:) ) And of course Dragon Quest 5 and 6!

Also Square releases: loved Secret of Mana, Mystic Quest(First RPG I could really grasp as a young lad), and Bahamut Lagoon!

Haha FF Mystic Quest was made for RPG beginners.

I would try to collect all 8bit Famicom Square games, but because I'm black, there is one game that I straight up refuse to play: Square no Tom Sawyer. It's what they did to the character Jim.

Final Fantasy IV Hard type was and still is a favorite of mine. While the verison we got of it was a fine game we missed out on some cool content. Luckily or perhaps unluckily we have gotten a lot of remakes of it that have given it back its flair at the cost of making it seem like a cheap cash in. While I'm thinking about FF I would say I enjoy VI but I just could not get into V as much, which is really weird since I really love III on the famicom.

Chrono Trigger I enjoyed though I've never owned it. Everytime I've had the urge to play it I just borrow it from my cousin since he has gotten himself caught up in PC gmaing and doesn't play his console stuff.

Seiken Densetsu 3 is just plain badass there isn't really another other way to describe it. I've beat the thing with just about every party combination. Its a shame this game didn't get released outside of Japan as its easily their best game on the SFC.

While most people seem to like Bahamut Lagoon I just couldn't get into it. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance to shine, or perhaps its because I had to play it emulated and it tainted the experience, but I haven't touched it since I lost interest in it.

I really loved Squaresoft back in the 16-bit era, so SFC-wise, I've enjoyed a lot of their Japan-exclusive titles. My personal favorites are: Alcahest, Front Mission (awesome art direction), Seiken Densetsu 3, and Romancing SaGa 2 & 3 (played through both with a friend who's got a native-level understanding of Japanese. Never would have been able to otherwise).

Heh I'm playing Front Mission: Gun Hazard as I'm making this post. This kinda sticks out as being a action game with RPG elements. It just so happens that Omiya, the same people behind the Assault Suits series (Assault Suit Leynos/Target Earth, Assault Suit Valken/Cybernator, and Assault Suit Leynos 2 for Saturn) worked with Square on it.

I kind of like Mystic Quest Legend too. The game sucks graphics-wise, but that doesn't really matter. Funny though--the people behind the graphics in that game really suck, how could they even release it like that?

Chrono Trigger is one of the few games that deserves every single bit of hype it gets, it's the best RPG of all time, period, no debate. It's a fact.

My favorite SFC only Square titles were FFV (because the job system is my favorite aspect of FF) and Front Mission. Still like FFIV and Chrono Trigger better than those two though.

I'm one of those odd ducks that likes both Square's 16-bit and 32-bit offerings. Then again I was never a harcore Nintendo fanboy that felt "betrayed" when Square dumped the N64 for Playstation, I just went to Playstation from SNES and enjoyed FFVII while N64 got...what, Quest 64?

Anyway, Square's 32-bit output is my favorite. I'm actually playing through FFIX again, wonderful game. Speaking of odd, I also like ALL the Playstation FF games, including the much maligned VIII.

I do think Square faltered a bit on the PS2. The Spirits Within fiasco and Enix buyout, plus resources getting sucked into FFXI probably had a lot to do with it. That said I still enjoyed the FF games (FFX was decent, not exactly my favorite, but I really enjoyed X-2 and loved FFXI). I still hold out hope that FFXII will be an awesome game (and with Matsuno's influence I do expect it to be awesome). I just wish Square had released more games this generation, and also had the diversity their 32-bit releases had. The massive whoring out shown by the FFVII Compilation projects and FFXIII doesn't give me much enthusiasm about Square's future offerings though.

I recall sometime last year there were rumors of Square merging with Taito. I think that would've been awesome, which leads to this, am I the only one that notices that practically any Square or Square Enix game that's not Final Fantasy, a RPG or at least no cameos of FF references either flops (Driving Emotion, The Bouncer), or becomes known among the hardcore crowd (i.e. Bushido Blade, Tobal no. 1, Ehrgeiz, Einhander the one and only shmup by them since King's Knight for NES/Famicom), and I'm stil asking have they ever made a sports title. Since Taito succeeded in all kinds of genres, if that rumored merge were to become reality let alone what some ppl would call "FF7 faggotry", Taito could teach Square a thing or two. Better yet, it could get Square in the arcade scene too.

Imagine an Einhander 2 in the arcade. Or a new Lufia. Possibilities could be endless...

Square Enix bought Taito last year. Square did a few sports titles, mainly on PS2 (wrestling, baseball). They also did some horse racing games on PSX I think.
