Nes to Famicom adapters?
« on: August 04, 2015, 08:45:50 AM »
Ok, am I missing something, or just looking in the wrong place? It seems like years back you could buy these dirt cheap, like under $10, to use Nes carts on like the Yobo Famiclones. I was wanting to get one to use on my Famicom so I could start buying certain Nes titles, but any of the ones I am seeing are like $30+. Is this the normal price for these things now? I did spot one seller who had them as straight pcbs with a cart connector, but I'd be weary of that on the off chance it tips forward or something. With the Famicom gamepad cords being so short that just seems like something likely to happen.

Here's one at $10, and there are more on ebay. I know it's the case that even a couple years ago they topped out at $10, but everything Japanese is creeping up in price lately.

I too am interested in the answer to this.  I was recently in the same boat and decided to put the idea on the back burner.

Yeah that one is bid only. Its on watch, but it will probably go up a bit more before it ends. I am wondering if it is even feasible to buy one, or to opt to get a Nes instead to play Nes stuff. Guess I should look at Nes prices too.

I had purchased one from stoneagegamer.com a couple years ago for less than $20.  It appears their site is currently down so I can't verify if they still have them or not anymore.  The ones they had were pretty decent.  I sold mine with the rest of my Famicom stuff about a year ago.

They are listed as sold out on there.

I have a Yobo brand one. It works, but you'd better have a damn clean cart and not have a draft in the room, tug the controller too hard or anything else or you game will freeze. There's just not enough support in the way it was constructed to keep the longer NES cartridges from stabilized.

How about using some of the sticky tack like those used for sticking poster to wall? Insert carts, apply some tack on both side of the carts to keep it from wiggling at all. They generally come off easy and clean when done.

I'd have to see what you're talking about. But something that has a larger plastic base around it would probably be needed.

Something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Elmers-Poster-Reusable-Adhesive-E1531/dp/B000BKQDB4

Thicker and less greasy than playing clay and doesn't dry out like play-doh.

After spending some time scouring Aliexpress I found this:
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-shipping-NES-card-turn-FC-host-using-72-feet-turn-60-feet-converter-in-high/1069576571.html

Maybe would work?  I dunno, but it's only $15 shipped from China!

Most likely, AliExpress is pretty solid sometimes but you gotta do your legwork.  They even sell Saturn Action replay units for like $25.
