I'm a fan.  He isn't a huge talent but just a NES Super fan.  I believe he has ALL the NES games ever made.  That is a huge achievement.

If he has extensively documented each game and hosts a mega site dedicated to the NES, where he makes all the info and media free to the public and is helping to preserve history, that would be a huge achievement.

Spending money is nothing to brag about.
This a thousand times. What f*cktards think that someone who can just ebay a collection has achieved anything? Mention his charity work, not his collectardation.

Just like that guy that bought every single PS2 game. Way to go, guy. You bought a bunch of games you'll never play, you'll never think about twice, just to say you did. You've successfully started a circle jerk.

Pat's a horrible actor and I really dislike his skits and hackneyed writing.  I feel embarrassed for him when I watch them and, if someone were to walk into the room while I was doing so, I would probably die of embarrassment myself.

I enjoyed his flea market madness videos until he changed his reaction faces to go out of their way to show his flexed bicep somehow.  They're still ok, though.

I listen to the Completely Unnecessary Podcast because I really like Ian.  They're wrong about a bunch of stuff but it's ok.  In the last one I listened to someone wrote in asking their opinion on Rare Replay fixing the Battletoads glitch and Ian had it in his head it was running out of lives for one player leading to a continue and level restart in a two player game, which isn't a glitch at all.  Weird they wouldn't have ever heard of the glitch that disables the second player's controls during the Clinger Winger stage, but sure!

I assume he's popular because he's been around forever and not because he's particularly talented or charming in any way.

I don't base any of my opinions of Pat on his videos. Well... maybe just one. His NES Punk videos seem awfully similar to Irate Gamer videos in the way they flow and are edited, except Irate Gamer has more green screen effects. But still, they're the same. Gameplay with someone decent dialog, pop back out (re: interrupt) to Pat (or Chris Bores) on camera for an awful joke, then back to more gameplay. But anyway my opinions of Pat are based on working with the man himself. Any of you guys ever have a manager who thinks he knows your job better than you even though he absolutely doesn't? A manager that places more stock in his ego and control than the quality of the product being produced? That's Pat. I have not heard of one editor from The Video Game Years that likes the guy. Oh sure, we all start out liking him. But make a suggestion and BOOM Pat blows up because A) He didn't come up with it and B) You posted it so all the other editors can see it and that is embarrassing for Pat... even though the suggestions involve the other editors. Pat told one of the editors to f*ck off at Too Many Games. Can't remember why but not at all surprised.

Bottom line: He takes himself too seriously and that's why he's always getting pranked by Billy and Jay from the Game Chasers. He gets really quiet when that happens.

He talks a lot about his Writing and Acting, capital letters implied.  If he was humble about it and it was the best he could do, I'd be cool with it.  It's the way he's cocky about something terrible that makes me think less of him.

He does come off as exactly the kind of guy you're describing, Joe.  That sucks =/

I thought I was going to hear how he was a funny, down-to-earth  person.

Oh well.

There ya go.... Proof of the pretentiousness that the two of them ( pat & ian) reek of.

Neo-Geo.com mentality. Bigger you spend, the more godlike you are.

It's why I enjoyed Mike Matei griefing him when he "guested" on Cinemassacre.

I love Pawn Stars though, Chumlee is a legend!

In that episode Pat claims the NWC carts "are the most coveted video games on the planet", that's far from true.

Yeah seriously, I thought there was some level of realism in the show until I saw that episode.  Then my eyes were opened.

I do think some of these types of shows are scripted or staged, but for the most part I doubt Pawn Stars is. It's real people bringing in their stuff to sell, I don't know how you'd convince all those customers going to a pawn shop to try and maximise their sale to adhere to a script.
Even it was scripted it wouldn't matter to me, I enjoy it as trash TV to zone out to.
