Wasn't he on Pawn Stars or something?

Can't get any more collectardy than that.

I love Pawn Stars though, Chumlee is a legend!

In that episode Pat claims the NWC carts "are the most coveted video games on the planet", that's far from true.
It's all scripted.

Yeah seriously, I thought there was some level of realism in the show until I saw that episode.  Then my eyes were opened.
I do think some of these types of shows are scripted or staged, but for the most part I doubt Pawn Stars is. It's real people bringing in their stuff to sell, I don't know how you'd convince all those customers going to a pawn shop to try and maximise their sale to adhere to a script.
Even it was scripted it wouldn't matter to me, I enjoy it as trash TV to zone out to.
I'm sure there is studio compensation.

I doubt it, the value of the stuff people bring in is pretty high, if they had to compensate them all the show budget would be too high, I can't see it myself.
I do think the bits in between the customers coming in is probably staged a bit, but it's still entertaing in a trash TV kinda way.

The interaction between the cast is scripted, it's shot on a stage and not the real store, and the customers are all staged, where the items being pawned have all been researched and values agreed upon.  There's no other way to do such a show.

Extremely scripted, and an extremely lame show.

Who'd want to watch it if it were real?  All you'd see is employees generally being civil with each other and a steady stream of people pawning off cheap stereos, power tools, and jewelry.

I didn't google it before posting before, I just did and yes it does appear it's pre-planned and scripted, which is surprising as that's quite elaborate lengths to go to, to fabricate all that.
Looking about on google it seems like it's common knowledge in the States that it's fake, guess I'm out the loop on this one living in another country.
Still doesn't change much for me though, was just light entertainment TV.

It's a TV show that generates a shit ton of revenue. You think it's more elaborate than Breaking Bad or Mad Men?

Why do people dislike Pat the NES Punk so much?  I mean, I'm not a fan OR hater but I don't see how he's different than any other popular YouTube gaming personality.  What did he do to rub people the wrong way?

I seriously dislike him for a few reasons.

First. he says lots of completely inaccurate things. He's got a great Nintendo collection, but that doesn't guarantee he's an expert at the subject. That doesn't stop him from pretending that he's somehow now an expert at all things video games and collecting... or people from treating him like he is.

Second, his podcast videos reek of the entitlement of old school collectors that drives me insane. His podcast on "eBay bots buying up good deals" was basically "I used to be able to get good deals on eBay, but now I can't. Poor little me." Then, he claims these bots are illegal, even though they aren't, at all. Entitlement to lower prices is probably what drives me most batty.

Finally, he and his buddy Ian are hypocrites. Ian runs a freaking video game store, and still whines of resellers... Constantly. I'm sorry, but I don't buy the "good resellers" versus "bad resellers" argument. If you are buying for $X, then selling for greater than $X, it doesn't matter if your price is lower than the other guys, you are still part of the situation of rising prices. Period.
Hey, you.

When have I ever quoted a 2008 price guide as reflective of today's prices? That is the sort of entitlement I'm talking about. I'm more likely to suggest that prices, while high, are what they are.
Hey, you.

Coincidentally enough, I had just run into a Facebook post today linking a Youtube video by Pat NES Punk dealing with an eBay experiment that was allegedly done to drive up the price of a cheap game.

The Stalin guy did bring up a good point, Pat's Pal on the Left "seems" to be jerking off while he listens to him. Heh-heh. ;)

Watch from that point and the joke makes sense. :P

Yeah in half the Pat the NES punk videos I've watched Ian is jerking off like that under the table.
It's at the point now where I'm thinking is he doing it on purpose?? get people talking??
