not sure if it goes here but...

Is there a paint/drawing package that can be downloaded and lets you create pictures or animation using the pc engine's resolution and colour palette??

I was working on one for awhile called PCEpixel but I stopped due to a lack of interest.

There is also "Artist's Tool" -- it was more of a promo release, but does
pretty much what you are asking.

I was thinking of Artist's Tool also, but then I realized what he wants is an external program to do this, likely for development purposes, and Artist's Tool unfortunately is useless for such a thing...

Nod, didn't you have a util to do PNG to PCE format with more than the 16 color limit that magickit imposed? Or was the demo pic done by hand(pre-render woman?).

malducci: That was done by hand.

Digi.k: If there's interest in the pixeller I was working on, I'll keep working on it.

This is easily doable then, using just about any Paint program.

Load up the PCE_Colors image, them reduce the palette size to the smallest
that you program can handle whiel still holding all the values.

Then you can export this to a palette.

From here you have several options.  You can either load up the palette as your starting point, and work with just that.  Or do your image, then import the palette (replacing the current one).

Doing this in PSP is easy (I am guessing it is easy to do in PS too, but I am not as familiar with PS, so I do not know specifically how to do it in that program).

PCE high res - 227colors (linear stretch to x480 for pixel aspect ratio)

I'm sure this pic violates the 16color per tile limit. Maybe with sprites its possible or using 2 BG layers on the SGX (and sprites too ?).
