Do you happen to have a Mega Everdrive? You can load import bios rom files from it to play import games. I forget which one works with the X'Eye, I think a Mega CD 2 bios will work but you might have to experiment.

Yeah this is the way to go. Keep in mind you will need the Mega EverDrive v2 and NOT the EverDrive-MD v3 (which is the cheaper model) as only the M-ED has bios loading support. As for which bios to use I think you can actually get away with loading any JP bios from any particular version of the MegaCD. I know a guy was experimenting with it before and loaded the X'Eye bios onto his model 1 and it worked just fine (expect the cd tray would not close since the X'Eye doesn't have a mechanical drive).

If you wanted to be absolutely sure you could probably find the bios for the Wondermega, which I believe is the JP X'eye. (I am assuming you meant you wanted to switch from US to JP region?)

As for options outside of using the Mega EverDrive I believe there is bios mods and such but I believe it's very difficult to do- probably easily to just invest in the flash cart.

I don't have a Mega Everdrive, just was looking for a way to switch the iso or bin files from US to JP and then burn them so I could play them on my X'Eye. Found a program "SCDToolz 3.55" to do it but didn't work because it wanted ISO, I had BIN. Converted the BIN to ISO and it was all like "No." I got confused. I'm sure someone knows things. Someone. Knows. Things. Knows. Things. Things... Things.

In addition to bios issues, you need to install a region switch for the cart side of things. Some games will do a region check on the Genesis hardware and fail to run correctly if you don't have the Genesis side of things switched to Japan mode.

I have a whole stack of Mega CDs and also use the Mega Everdrive with X'eye. Quite a few different Sega CD BIOS's I have work.

The Mega Cart. Yeah, that works great. It does go for a fair amount, though.

http://www.zophar.net/utilities/segacdutil/convscd.html

Worked for me.

This tool works quite well for converting titles when I used to do it that way, but it is not perfect since there are some titles that have secondary checks as well. It has been years since I've needed to use that too though, I normally either use a different BIOS with the MegaED or at this point just use the MegaCD PAC to play the titles.

Thanks, gonna have to try this a little later when I have more time.

Did not know that. Shit. Maybe I need to finally add all the bells + whistles to my X'Eye. Thanks.

He brought up an X'eye specifically, I have one that reads CDRs pretty well and one that even after a laser change is bad at it. So the flash cart + BIOS method is probably his best bet.

Played quite a few CD-Rs on my system, haven't had any problems. Also just tried using that region converter linked and I'm still having troubles, maybe I should try again when I don't have a headache. Ah.

That it is does though if you want to keep the sega-cd original without the multibios mod it's the way to go.
