November 21 - November 27 : Drop Off
---------------------------------------------------------------------

(chosen by turboswimbz)

Drop rock / Drop off is a game mired in the realm of less than average break out clones.  ALthough not a great clone there is something to playing the less popular games on the system, and actually giving it a shot.  I have found there to be some fun in the game, it does add some intresting features, such as a story to the game, and the ability to change bounce angle.  The game by no means is going to win over your heart, but it will get you talking about how the game could have been better.  The first few stages will be fun once you play and try it.  There is IMO a base there that could have been good, but just fails short and looses re (playability).  Still It's an intresting game on the system, one that doesn't get talked about much and one that isn't as bad as it's reputation.  It's a game I still like the idea of and play from time to time, if for nothing else to get a diffrent experience.

--------------------

This descendent of Breakout is a high-score game as much as anything else, and you know what that means. We're having us a good old fashioned competition!

Ugh.  I'm sad to say that out of all the Turbo games I got as a kid, this is one of the two that I still have the box for.  Drop Off felt to me like a let down when I got it.  I literally felt like I'd been ripped off; that I had paid good money for it hoping that it would be fun like Tetris and instead it always felt like a mess to me.  Drop Off seems like it is perhaps the worst Arkanoid/Breakout knockoff that I've ever played.  This is just my opinion though; perhaps this is because I'm not good at it.  Or perhaps I'm not good at it because I dislike it due to it being bad?

Last year's Worst Huey Ever pole had Drop Off making it only to the second round which I found surprising.  There were even a couple of comments about the game on the last page of the thread.

Anyway, I have the game so I'll definitely participate in the score challenge.  After one game I got 1470 points and died in the first round.  I'll play more tomorrow but tonight I'm too tired to warrant staying up late for Drop Off.

Like Seieienbu Kaihatsu I'm just awful at this game but I don't know if that's just because the game itself is awful. I'll try it again just because it is a GOTW, else I wouldn't bother.

I am on a flight right now with my TurboExpress and plan to make some damage in this. What is with the epic story at the start though? Haha

I am not very good at this game at all. I find the ball to be a very tough object to bounce from, since it has such a small amount of available surface area compared to the usual Breakout plank. That said, I do like the different object arrangements for each level since there are different strategies you need to use. The different bounce types (up or sideways) adds a layer of complexity to the Breakout formula but again it's just really tough to direct the ball accurately and more importantly just bounce the ball.

The story is hilarious though, how each round is influenced by the stuff she is dreaming about. Food, money and religion are the first three stages - please tell me sex is a later stage! Is anyone actually able to read the little text blurb between rounds? It's incredibly quick!

I hope to play this one more a little later to see if I can establish some kind of groove. Thanks for the pick, Mr. Swimbz.

I played another game and got to stage 2 with a score of 13,770.  If it was first place, I would've taken a screen shot but as it wasn't I won't bother.  Perhaps I'll play again later.

I've been playing this here and there when I get a few minutes - I'm actually having some fun with it, but it sure can be unpredictable and frustrating.  Sometimes I can make it to level 4 without losing a life or even using an up arrow thing, and other times I'll get a bunch of random deaths and not even make it out of the second level before needing a continue.  There are some pretty cool powerups as you get further in the game - shame they are so sparse though, considering there are so many of the boring arrow ones that litter the first handful of levels.

My record right now is 25,800...I bow to the skill of SamIAm.

I played a few rounds but didn't get past the second level. There may be some replayability with powerups, if that were a thing. As it stands, the game is pretty much just boring and forgettable. There doesn't seem to be anything that stands out or make me want to try it again.
