So I got me a generic FEKA ED, what to play?
« on: May 25, 2016, 11:37:14 AM »
Got me one of them cheapo depot generic Everdrives for the Genny, seems to work well enough seems some games need to be patched for saving or some other issues but I'd say 95%ish of stuff works fine.

The question is, what do I dive into?!?!!?

Also, is there anything good on the home-brew/romhacking scene, aside from 10000000000 versions of sonic?

FEKA is a vast array of greatness.  What type of games do you like?

Just looking for stuff outside the scope of the popular stuff everyone knows about.

Those things are supposed to be unreliable. I'd do extensive game saving tests before investing time in a RPG.

Otherwise, here are some cool games to play:

Monster World IV
Beyond Oasis
Crusader of Centy
Shining Forces and 'In the Darkness
Warsong/Langrisser hack
Langrisser II
Phantasy Star IV
Light Crusader

Steel Empire
Super Fantasy Zone
Wings of Wor
Eliminate Down
Gaiares
Trouble Shooters

Wardner
Valis / 'III
Marvel Land
Target Earth
Pulseman
Shinobi III
Snow Bros
Rainbow Islands
Super Bubble Bobble
Wani Wani World
Rocket Knight Adventures
Sparkster
Dynamite Heady
Midnight Resistance
Gunstar Heroes

That's a pretty good list!  I'd add:
Alisia Dragoon
Blades of Vengeance (when the F did this game get expensive?)
Caliber .50
Decap Attack
Dick Tracy
Eswat (haven't completed this one yet but like it so far)
Mercs
The Pirates of Dark Water
Saint Sword
Shadowrun

Those EDs should work for 32X and Master System games as well, if there's any of those you've been itching to play.  I've been planning to pick one up for that reason.

Dynamite Heady is a masterpiece.  Treasure at it's best.

Let's see...

Castlevania Bloodlines is a totally decent CV and worth playing if you like the series. I've heard Contra Hard Corps is good as well, but haven't played it myself. I do know the US version was made much more difficult.

Speaking of difficult, Chakan is pretty brutal, but if you're into that give it a shot. It gives you a time limit instead of limited lives, looks decent and has some quality music. Alien Soldier is another good choice if you like titles that push you to master them.

Landstalker has a good reputation, but I haven't been able to play it much, as the copy I picked up turned out to be in rough shape and I have trouble getting it to work.

Thunderforce III seems good, but I haven't played it much. I clearly haven't been playing enough shooters the past few years, as it immediately kicks my ass.

Probably other stuff, but I always have trouble coming up with lists like this.
Feel like a treasure game on a rainy day.

It really depends on the game type you're looking for but some of my favs could be Trouble Shooters, El Viento, Alisia Dragoon, Gunstar Heroes, the Sonic games if for some reason you haven't played them, Elemental Master, Streets of Rage 2, etc.

There are also a fair number of translation hacks and such out there, and also good homebrews.  Suprakillminds is a fun one, and 2048 is a surprisingly addictive puzzle game.

Speaking of Megadrive homebrew try "Sega Master System Brawl".

To the recommendations list I'll throw Road Rash 1 and 2, the Outrun port is decent, some people say Outrun 2019 is a bad game but I like it, the Flintstones, Tiny Toons.
Gaming since 1985

Most of the great stuff has been mentioned but I'll try to add a few:

Granada, Musha, Mystical Fighter, Ranger X/Ex-Ranza, looks like no-one has mentioned Revenge of Shinobi (get early revisions of the game if you can to see all the weird cross over characters), Rolling Thunder 3 is an exclusive I believe (not an arcade port), the two Splatterhouse sequels, The Hybrid Front (Japanese), Phantasy Star II Text Adventures which were downloadable titles through the Sega Modem in Japan and have english translations online, Psy-O-Blade (digital comic, also has a translation), Rent-A-Hero, and Yu Yu Hakusho (also one of Treasures lineup.)

I'm a huge fan of Alien Soldier and it's the only Mega Drive game I really own, so I definitely echo that suggestion.  That game has all the right elements for addiction and if you stick to it you will feel like a bad-ass tearing through it.
