Game of the Month: April 2020 - Hatris
« on: April 02, 2020, 07:32:33 PM »
Hatris

Yes, Hatris! Been meaning to give it another go. This one is for necro. Lol and probably only him. I will participate and try to give necro a run for his money. Most should know the history with this game. It's the sort of sequel to tetris. Even though that could go to Welltris or Faces. Hopefully there will be more than two people for this one. Haha.

Yeah this will be a good one to pick up and play quick since it's just a puzzle game. Also, not like I'm going anywhere anytime soon. Haha. So, plenty of time to play. I'll tell you one thing. I suck at this game.

I got this game a few secret santas ago on PCEFX, but I could never get it to work! I've played this at my friends place on his Nintendo though and it was pretty fun

Well, I guess necro is done for the month already. I gave it a go today. Finally got the hang of it again. Only got about 100k. I don't fully understand the score yet. So, how do you set up chains? That I can't really do yet. Also when do you add hats from the shop or not? The more hats the more potential to score? I see it has harder. When you purchase more it makes the level go higher. Still learning. Was actually enjoying it today.

I'm never done with Harris!  For a quick bit of fun, I like to fire it up at stage 9 and shop 5, or I'll go for top score and start at stage 4 and shop 5.

I've not put any real effort into figuring out the score mechanics, other than burning everyone to see if you get a big bonus (you don't).  I know you get a few points for dropping hats faster, and I assume you get more points for clearing sets of 'more advanced' hats or for clearing two sets of hats with one pair, but my only real scoring strategy is to clear hats and get to the next stage.

By the way, the shop removes hats from the play field, giving you some breathing room if you need it; new hat types are added automatically based on your stage.  I rarely ever have a hat sale, instead choosing pass each time.

So how does everyone pronounce the name for this game? Ha-Tris, Hat-Ris, or Hat-Tris? There are clearly not two Ts in the spelling but yet I think Hat-Tris would be how most would say it since it sounds more like Tetris.

If it is really pronounced Hat-Ris, well then we have all been saying Tetris wrong this whole time.
