The 1989 USA game selection - your favorites?
« on: January 02, 2022, 10:55:18 PM »
As far as I know, these are the games that were available for the TG16 (and TGCD) in 1989, just going by the list on Wikipedia.

Alien Crush
Keith Courage in Alpha Zones
The Legendary Axe
Victory Run
Blazing Lazers
China Warrior
Dungeon Explorer
R-Type
Vigilante
Dragon Spirit
Fantasy Zone
Fighting Street (CD)
Galaga '90
Monster Lair (CD)
Moto Roader
Power Golf
Side Arms
World Class Baseball
World Court Tennis

You got any favorites on this list? There's a lot of quality games here. My own favorites include Keith Courage, Victory Run, Blazing Lazers, Dungeon Explorer, Legendary Axe and Power Golf.

I like your choices! Power Golf and V. Run get overlooked a lot.

Blazing, Dungeon Explorer, Legendary Axe and Side Arms are still some my favs from that list. I had a lot of fun with Baseball with two players, it turned into a base stealing mini game :). R-type, Galaga, Motoroader and Dragon Spirit are all solid game to me also.

Dunno whose dates are more correct, wiki vs Bible/Daisakusen, but they mention a few other US '89 titles: Takin' It To The Hoop, Space Harrier, Pac Land, Final Lap Twin and Deep Blue. There are conflicting dates for Ordyne and Military Madness.

Galaga and Dungeon Explorer are probably my favorites out of the bunch (they're definitely the ones with which I've spent the most time) but there's a lot of solid titles in the group.

All of the initial shmups are ones I remember playing a TON of when I first got my TG16. Blazing Lazers is still one of my favorite pickup and play games. Sidearms has not aged as well for me, haha. I do still like playing Sidearms Special's B.C. mode, though.

And Alien Crush is still one of my favorite games for the console. I still play it about equally with Devil's Crush.

Keith Courage, Blazing Lazers, and Legendary Axe were and still are some of my favorites.

Strong lineup, but they didn't follow through, a shame.

Besides the obvious ones, Monster Lair and World Court Tennis were some of my faves.  World Court Tennis is a blast 2 or 4 player game.  The game likes to cheat in adventure mode, but you can establish a technique to beat that one too.
