Final Fantasy I & II PSP
« on: February 14, 2007, 07:10:46 AM »
Anyone else notice that in the real FF PSP screenshots, that they're actually redoing most of the graphics for the PSP?

So far, it looks like the menus, character & monster art is all "hi-res" now. Hopefully all the maps get upgraded too. I'd also like a redbook orchestra soundtrack and real cinemas(maybe some voice acting?), but at this point, the PSP version will already be the "ultimate" version of FF I & II.

I hope that it does well enough to get more PSP FF remakes like this.

Redbook? :P

The music will more than likely be atrac-based. Anyway, the game seems fairly promising. Too bad they chose FF1-2, the worst games in the series. :-s

You know what I mean, recorded by real people playing real instruments at the same time and sounding in the game like the real thing, not tinny or anything. Just like how most people call the PC Engine 16-bit.

I was going to use some quotation marks or something, but didn't think it was necessary.

I still prefer them over everything FFVII onward and FFI will always be my favorite.

FFI was the best one from the ones I played (I, II, IV,VII, VIII).  Simply because it was the only one where it offers real motivation to play the game again.  You can just blaze through the whole game with 3 fighters/1 red mage, or if you wanna torture yourself, try it with 4 white mages  ](*,)

II was okay, but it just took insanely long amounts of time upgrading each weapon skill...  (and back to square 1 if you wanted your character to try another weapon).

VII was new enough, so I enjoyed it, but I got sick of the whole interactive movie thing by the time VIII rolled around.

Any chance that they'll make the game worth playing?  I haven't seen a Final Fantasy yet that was.  Well actually I'd like to play FF6 or whatever number they assigned it on the SNES (not GBA).

Damn, how many times are they going to remake/port these two games?

Adding PCE console specific layer on top of that, makes for an interesting challenge (no, not a reference to Ys II).

Forever.

I'd like to see a real remake of FF3 (FC). A faithful, 2D one. In true widescreen (widescreen 2D is AWESOME). For PSP.

By the way - where can I see the screenshots of these games? I've looked around and haven't found anything.

Some of the magazine screenshots are from the GBA version or something. Which is great, because you can directly compare the Earth Fiend fight between the two versions-

Looking closer now at the blurry images, it looks like they have redone thre world map and towns/dungeons.  :)

That would be nice :) . I want to know why they keep porting/remaking I & II and not including III?

Its all because the Wonderswan FFIII remake never got finished.

If it had, it probably would've been on the PSX FF I & II or a similar 2 pack, as well as GBA and the DS port probably would've never been started.

I don't know about you guys but this and Rondo of Blood are now giving me more reason than ever to go out and buy a PSP. :)

I got some clearer pictures of the first two games for the PSP and they look GORGEOUS! You can make out all the fine details in each of the sprites now!

The word was that Square somehow lost the original code for the game to the point where the whole game needed to be remade from scratch.  They could do a 2D version but they wanted to work with innovative features and that is why they decided to do a 3D remake instead.

Ha! Lich now looks a lot more like Skeletor in drag in this version than the PSP and PS1. :P

Whoa, whoa, WHOA! Final Fantasy II I'll give you but the first one? The first game is still a great game to play.  Not to mention without number 1, we wouldn't even have a Final Fantasy series let alone Squaresoft.  Besides, the custom party system for the game allowed for a LOT of replayability.  Of all Final Fantasies out there, no other game offers more replay value than the first one since you can create any new party you like!

I took the 4 white mage challenge a few years ago for the NES version and believe me, it's murder! BUT, it can be done! Just be prepared to go back to the Inn and Clinic over and over!

I know that most people out there are gonna pass up on this version due to the series already available on GBA and that's fine with them.

Judging from the screenshots that I linked to, it looks like the skill system in Final Fantasy II has been refined to allow for more leniency in level building.  Good!

Sorry, but I don't see your library card on the books of Ys.  Now, RETURN THEM TO ME!!!

This is now one more game I'd buy a PSP for(if I didn't already have one). But now I'm dying for a decent TV hook up.  :(

Yeah, playing PSP Final Fantasy I & II on your TV would rock!

Hmm, it looks like they also added Mode 7 to this version judging by the slanted map appearance.  I hope they remake all the other Final Fantasies like this.  I'd LOVE to see Final Fantasy VI in high-res graphics like this!

The Playstation and GBA versions also had "Mode 7" effects while flying the airship.

Well, maybe someday, somebody could do an upgrade/hack of FF3 for PCE :-s
