I agree. I hate both formats, but man I really can't stand Quicktime.

That looks more like an exploit to me.  Anyway, from the article you linked to:

Who the hell uses the official players for the various video codecs anyways?  That's pretty silly.

As a codec, both are alright I guess.  If I had a choice, I would pick something MPEG based, but it's really not that big of a deal unless you are a A\V nerd.

Quicktime offers a billion different codecs and WMV probably offers a few as well (not sure).  H.264 with AAC audio is the best way to go.  VLC media player is a good one that can play most formats.

I'm definately an A/V nerd, and I prefer any MPEG format over both the QuickTime formats (.mov/.qt/.whateverelsetheyhave) and WMV (f*ck DRM).

VLC is amazing, it plays almost anything even it's corrupted, it tries to play it as far as it's possible.

Oh god REALmedia sucks so much ass.  I do not care for MPEG 1 either.  Even at its best settings it looks gawdawful and takes up a HUGE amount of file space.  MPEG4 is da bomb, even though it really is only a container format like Quicktime.  When either Quicktime or MPEG4 is using H.26motherf*ckin'4 along with AAC audio, the world kicks so much ass!  Seriously, life CAN'T get better!  If it weren't for the H.264 and AAC combination, I'd invent a time machine so I could go back and prevent myself from being born, as life wouldn't be worth living.
